Question about how to glue Polymer clay

Hey everyone...maybe you can help me with this problem.... I wanted to create some stud earrings..... but now I don't know how to glue the polymer clay to the metal studs! I saw that there are many stud earrings from polymer clay on Etsy so there must be a way to glue it? Would be great if you got some tips for me!!!

Re: Question about how to glue Polymer clay

Hi Saphira!

I personally use E6000 and have had really good luck with it. I know others use super glue, epoxy, or another really strong glue.

I would use a coupon at your local craft store since glue can get kinda pricey, that way you can try a few things and see what you like best. :)

Re: Question about how to glue Polymer clay

I sometimes will use some resin to keep them in place, since it is pretty strong as well c: Alternately, I will push the stud piece into the clay before baking.

Re: Question about how to glue Polymer clay

I don't make Post Earrings, but I use E 6000 for gluing pin backs, or corded jewelry to findings. It holds really well, but it takes a long time to dry. I also use Gorilla glue on some jewelry items.

Re: Question about how to glue Polymer clay

I haven't tried gluing posts to earrings, but I have found that super glue tends to be brittle and breaks. I use two-part epoxy for gluing metal to poly clay.

Re: Question about how to glue Polymer clay

I use E 6000 but it is heat sensitive so if you are doing a show outside where it will be really hot I would not recommend it but for everyday use its great.

Re: Question about how to glue Polymer clay

cyanoacrylate is perfect but be careful you must be accurate and don't spread it beacuse it becomes white when dry and will be unaesthetic ;)
another way for stud earrings is to incorporate the stud in the clay, if the earring shape allows to do.

Re: Question about how to glue Polymer clay

Cyanoacrylate is my go-to adhesive for clay to metal (including stud/post earrings). I get the ones that are on sale when I need them (I get small sizes because they dry out before I can finish them), so it could be Krazy Glue, Loctite Super Glue, or Gorilla Glue.
