This may sound strange, but what is the temperature in your home? Are you working with a bright lamp on the clay or are your hands maybe a little clammy?
I've had the same problem sometimes when it is too humid...the clay becomes nearly impossible to work with. x.x
Hi Janine ..Especially if your working under lights...I have a suggestion someone told me that works well is put it in the frig for 20 to 30 minutes or more...but if you are sculpting I would suggest getting into some other brands of clay like kato or pardo...but for me sometimes premo or Fimo is all thats I can get at the stores close to me without ordering online...but I will tell you that many artists that make jewelry stay away from sculpey for anumber of reasons...But I hope that helps...Janine...all my best ..happy claying Daniel
Thanks, but I'm only having trouble with a couple of packs, so if it were the lights or humidity, I would think it would effect the others the same. I appreciate the suggestions though, some things to keep in mind for the future.
Leeching helps too -- run it through the pasta machine into a sheet and put it between pieces of paper for a few hours to leech the extra oil out. Can repeat until it's the consistency you like.
I also recommend leeching the clay as Ann suggests. I use mostly Sculpey Ultralight and most packages are very soft when first opened and I have to leech it a day or so before its workable.
