Hello, Team!

Hello all! I'm a first time seller on Etsy and I just opened my shop last week. I'm also a new polymer clay artist who has been perfecting the polymer clay medium for about three months. I'd appreciate any advice from you veterans! I see a lot of great artists here :)

Re: Hello, Team!

Thanks Kim! I've actually browsed your shop when I was doing some research on polymer clay and your fairy portals are just darling! I love the way they look when mounted; so realistic!

Re: Hello, Team!

Katrina-
Your work is adorable! Looks like you have fun. I really love your descriptions- very playful (You make me realize I should try harder with mine!)
Here are a few tips that I thought of while looking over your store-
You might want to crop your pictures in a little closer. I'm sure it's a challenge to get really close to small objects but you may be able to crop the images and still keep them high enough resolution (I try to at least be 400 pixels if I can't get up to 1000 and it still works)
Also it's always good to come up with colors that are your "trademark" colors for backgrounds. It took me a long time to get this figured out. Now I have just four colors that I shoot my backgrounds on when I use backgrounds. You might want even less... it would be interesting to hear other's take on this.
What else.... oh I found early on that it was good to put my own name as a tag every once in awhile because friends would try to search for me and they didn't know where to find me. I saw you did put your store name- smart!
Well those are my little "helpful hints" - I've only been on etsy for a year and a half so I'm still learning too. And open to any advice!
Good luck! Hope you sell a million!

Re: Hello, Team!

Laylmcdill,

Thanks for your very insightful advice! I've thought about using my signature colors as a backdrop but at the same time I wanted to use all types of bright colors, but that's definitely a great idea. I'm also working on making more improvements such as photos amongst other things. Tagging is always tricky so thanks for that advice! Very unique pieces by the way!

I think your work is ADORABLE! I'm most definitely not a veteran. I've been working with polymer for about four months myself. I just wanted you to know that I think you've built a very solid start and I think there's a huge market for your work. Good Luck!

I love your ceations-wonderfully cute! It was hard to choose a favorite, but I finally chose the Panda.
I have been working with polymer clay since Feb 2011, so I am fairly new myself and I Love doing it.
Good Luck

Re: Hello, Team!

Hi Katrina, I love your bomb earrings --- they're amazing :-)! If you're considering photographing your pieces among other things, I'd be very sure that the earrings stand out, as I'm sure they're quite small and you'd want to be sure that they remain the centre of attention in your photo. I'm very new to Etsy, as a seller and haven't been working with polymer clay that long, either, but it's an amazing medium and the possibilities are endless! By the way, my brother's nickname for me was Katrina :-). Good luck and I love your shop! Cathy

Re: Hello, Team!

Thanks everyone! I do realize the photos don't do the items that much justice (as you all know, polymer clay pieces look MUCH better in person ^^), however, I am restricted to using my iPhone camera which is actually very good. I am taking pictures of some of my new items today so I'll see what I come up with! :)
