Craft Fair Decorations

We're preparing to attend a craft show and were wondering if any of you have done craft shows before. How did you decorate your table or stall. Where did you get the things that you included in your display like banners and decorations. What else did you put up at your stall. What kinds of things do t you things work best at getting customers attention. Thanks, we appreciate the all of feedback, and help you have to give.

Re: Craft Fair Decorations

Hello! I have been doing shows for 15 years and have collected lots of display pieces. My style is casual cottage style like my home so some of my home decor things can work well for my craft shows.

- I use vintage handmade quilts on my table, which seems to draw women in.
Some people swear by white or neutral color tablecloths so you have to decide what shows off your jewelry the best.

- I have lots of baskets lined with white handmade doilies. Baskets are great - you can arrange the items in them at home, pull them out of the big plastic tote, and set on the table - makes for a quick set-up. I also store everything in the baskets on shelves at home.

- I have different kinds of wrought iron stands and wooden boxes I have picked up at thrift shops or the Goodwill so they are very inexpensive. You want to have some vertical display pieces to add interest, not just have everything laying flat on the table. If you search for "jewelry displays" here on Etsy, you can find all kinds of things and get some ideas.

- I make sure I use a couple of common colors in the whole display so everything ties together. I use different quilts depending on the season, and I make my signs with prices for different groupings (necklaces, bracelets, pins, pendants, ornaments etc) with construction paper in a matching color - for example, pink in the spring, orange in the fall, red/green at Christmas.

- Adding something seasonal is pretty such as a vase with pink silk roses in the spring, some silk autumn leaves in the fall intertwined around your whole display, some Christmas balls for Dec. shows, etc.

I hope that will give you some ideas and best wishes with your show!

Re: Craft Fair Decorations

I agree with everything ArtsyClay said. We change the tablecloths depending on the season making sure the color or theme flows throughout the booth space.

We use handmade pottery pieces that are narrow so the buyers can flip through the necklaces and earrings more easily. They are individually packaged in clear plastic bags (bought at craft stores) so they are ready to be dropped down in a bag if bought. Makes it easier when there is a crowd.

We also put a beautiful mirror on the table for buyers to hold the jewelry up to their faces.

For booth flow we put an antique table in the middle. We put interesting items here to draw attention. It helps the booth not be so crowded allowing for a constant flow. The more inviting you can make your booth, the more customers you will have. Also, I am not sure how big your booth will be, but it is great to have a table out of the front side or something larger here. Don't put small pieces here as sometimes things can find their way into others pockets. We use a metal Christmas tree here to hang the ornaments.

I love fairs. It's like a temporary building. The best selling advice I could give you is to connect to every person. It is a great selling technique. Are they wearing a pretty shirt...you love it; do they have bags in their hands from someone selling bread...it's your favorite. I'm not saying lie...I'm saying notice what they like and if you like it too, say so. It helps you connect.

Good luck. Our next fair is Sept. 8th. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Re: Craft Fair Decorations

I have some very unique desplays. I've only done two shows and I'm about to do my first "flea market".

I used watermelon table cloths and pink table cloths this summer. Going to switch to a more neutral color after my next show. I do have a sign I made with my logo, but it is on a stake and doesnt work at some locations.

My dangling earrings go in a picture frame I've backed with wire. My book based jewelry hangs over the specific book on display. My stud earrings go on a rack I made from a neat wooden box with rows on both sides (I tacked study ribbon across for rows and I can just open and close it to carry it along).

My doll food sits with an American Girl doll. She's old, but clean and dress well to catch little girls eyes. :) I have no doubt she brings in the most customers!
