Working with digital collages

Hey guys! I'm in love with some of the digital collages created by fellow Etsy sellers and I'd love to make buttons using those images. However, I've run into a problem. I have a 1" Tecre button machine, and the images for the 1" buttons are usually actually 1.313". The digital collages for sale on Etsy are perfect 1" circles, so what can I do to make them the correct size? Can I blow up the image without distorting them? I tried using a 1" image in my button machine and the button turned out horribly :(

Re: Working with digital collages

Are they being sold at 300dpi?
Try bumping them down to 200dpi, then increasing the size 1.313" in, and it SHOULD be ok. 200 dpi is usually good enough for printing, and shouldn't make much of a difference.

Re: Working with digital collages

I've contemplated buying some of those images...I just can't bring myself to do it though! I want to hunt down my own treasures.

I wonder how some of them are selling copyright images.....

Anyways....when I was thinking about doing it I was noticing that the images are exactly 1 inch as well. I figured I would just take each image and crop it off the sheet and give it a border of color. Otherwise you'll be cutting off some of the image.

Re: Working with digital collages

Hi all, I buy the etsy collage sheets and they work perfectly. I get the 1" circles. They work fine. Maybe I'm missing something? I use them with the 1" button machine....the mylar is bigger...but it tucks under the bottom of flatbacks, which is what I use:-)

Re: Working with digital collages

I buy them all the time and I resize them to fit within my template, then I use the fill with content aware feature on photoshop to make up the "bleed area". Etsy has saved me countless hours in designing the buttons...

I too, buy them all the time, it's mostly what I sell, and some I do have to resize. I have a template on my PSE.

I believe there are some templates you can download off of buttonmakers.net if you have PS.

Re: Working with digital collages

I thought about using these digital collages myself. I had asked one of the sellers if they could provide them in a .svg(scalable vector graphics) format but she never responded. That format would allow you to resize without destorting the image.

Wow, this is such an old thread. I use the same method as Jacob, I just fill in the bleed on a template that I have, and it's worked fine.
