Pin It price tag banner on Etsy

I am just curious what you all think of the price tag banners and text that Etsy automatically inserts when you pin a shop item directly from Etsy.

I personally don't like it as I think it detracts from the image. I usually edit the text to be a more accurate description of the item, remove the price, yet leave the shop name.

I am elated though that Etsy now has has the Pin icon. Pinterest is burning the internet and is currently the #7 social media site based on number of users. And it's climbing!

I'm glad that Etsy has the pin button as well! I'm not sure if I have an opinion about the price tag banner, I think it highlights that the item is for sale and if people like the price they may be interested in learning more!

I don't know what do you all think?

Re: Pin It price tag banner on Etsy

I usually use my "Pin It" FireFox app button rather than Etsy's button since I don't like the prices. I have it in my tool bar for easy access and of course will work on any webpage that has an image.

I almost feel the mystery of not having the price will get more clicks than with it. I'm guessing a lot of people are curious where the picture originated, but if it has a price, they probably know that if they click on it they'll end up on sale page.

Personally I find the corner ribbon with the price totally destroys my images -- most of mine are really close ups filling the frame with my design or word decals, so then the ribbon makes them unreadable.

I agree with Lori Lee.. I don't use Etsy's Pin It button. I can't stand the big price banner.....

But not sure, to be honest, if it has an affect on those looking

I always remove the price banner as well! I think it takes away from the image!

I have since changed my tune after reading the article posted in this thread:

http://www.etsy.com/teams/11516/pin-it-up-pinterest-group/discuss/9727037/page/1/

He states that the price tagged items automatically get coded to Pinterest lists in the Gift Guide. If someone is searching for gifts, the items with price banners show up!

Re: Pin It price tag banner on Etsy

You can still use Etsy's Pin It button, just remove the price text. I also generally remove the price as I think it may turn off a lot of people. If they really like the item, they're going to click on it anyway.

Regarding the article about the pin being included in the "gifts" search if left on the pin, it made me think too. So, I searched "gifts" on Pinterest and VERY FEW of what showed up had the price tag up in the corner. I DID notice, however, that everyone of them had the word "gifts" somewhere in the description of the item.

So, rather than have the price tag in my pins, I'm adding the word "gifts" wherever I can. I'm hoping it will accomplish the same goal without blatantly advertising the price.

I normally remove the price banner. I also think it detracks for the boards. I also know that we make price adjustments from time to time and I don't want a different price posted.
