Signed Prints

How do y'all do your signed prints? I've heard sign the front, back, sharpie, pencil...

What is the proper way to sign a photographic print for sale. I don't offer them much, but I thought I might start with some of the prints I have on hand.

Thanks!

Re: Signed Prints

I don't reckon there's any one proper way to do it, but here's what I do and it seems to work OK:

I write the title and basic information about the image on the back, and sign my name below it. My basic information includes the camera and lens used to capture the image, the type of film (if it's a film image, and most of mine are), and the type of paper it's printed on, if the manufacturer doesn't imprint this on the back.

I use an ultra-fine-tip Sharpie to do this with since it's permanent but doesn't mar the paper. I can't imagine it has any adverse effects on the paper or the image on the other side, but then I print on thick papers.

Re: Signed Prints

I no longer sign my prints. When I began on this site I did. I signed them on the back at the bottom with date of printing, title and my signature. I found the vast majority of purchasers were not concerned with signatures as my photos are not offered as limited editions. I sold over 250 photographic prints last year and only 2 asked if I would sign them, which I did.

Re: Signed Prints

Hi! Here's a few of my listings! I tend to sign with a fine sharpie on the front of the image with my 'signature' (obviously not my usual signature!) and on the back again, with the date. Most of my pieces don't have titles as there would be too many to name and I didn't want clichés! Hope that helps!
