Print labs

Hi everyone. I have a question about what print lab everyone uses. I'm currently using Mpix and and really love their black and white paper. I would also like to try a metallic paper at some point but I see they don't offer that option anymore.

I tried Adorama once and the black and white images came out a little too blue, which I wasn't fond of. I've heard some good things about ProDPI. Any suggestions?

Re: Print labs

Hello Alia,

Have you tried Kodak Metallic - The colours have a reflective,
metallic and 3-dimensional feel to them.

Re: Print labs

I've heard some good things about iprintfromhome.com. I ordered some small samples of my work, one on metallic Kodak paper. If I end up using them I'll be able to lower my prices since I would save money on printing and shipping costs!

Re: Print labs

I've used White House Custom Color (whcc.com) for what seems like forever, and have always been very happy with their service. Price, quality, turnaround time...it's all good.

Re: Print labs

I use both White House (WHCC) as Bryan above and Nations Photo Lab depending on what I am wanting. White House is really great as they have a low $12.00 min order that is delivered in like two days. When you initially sign up, they have you sync up to their system with a sample to make sure your colors are in the same. Some times the color difference is in the technology differences and not the printers. What your monitor shows isn't always what the coding behind is sending/receiving. Unless it has changed in the past couple years, WHCC also sends you a nice starter package. This will come with your three sample 8x10 prints (of no cost to you either) and a package of all their various paper qualities, print type, etc. Nations Lab does not have a min order. However, you have to pay shipping for under like $50 I think it is. It is also turned around in a short amount of time. A little cheaper for some of your sizes than WHCC though. Both companies use high quality paper and in my experiences, print great. Both companies have their own ROES software you have to download in order to place orders. Makes it very easy. I have used WHCC to print Metallic prints and LOVED it! The snowy mountains against bright blue skies just popped right out. :) Hope that helps you some.

Re: Print labs

Hi Mary,
Do you have experience printing on canvas with either WHCC or Nations? Just curious as to what you thought of the quality. I may be putting some of my train images in a gift shop, and I thought the canvas would be a nice option as they come ready to hang.

Re: Print labs

No. Sorry Bryan I haven't yet. I want to; just haven't crossed that line quite yet. If you do so, please share your experience. I will do like wise!

Re: Print labs

I actually use WHCC for my metallic luster prints and float wraps. ProDPI for all of my regular prints and most of my canvas'. I'm weird like that. I love them both for print quality, customer service and their prices are so much better then nearly everyone else in the printing industry.

Re: Print labs

I use Millers and I love their paper and turn around time. In order to get an account through them you have to do some high volume selling. However, I find their prices to be very reasonable to allow for our markups. They also have fast turn around time, about 48 hours and do free over night FedEx delivery. You can also do drop shipment for $6.00, and they do not include a receipt. So the client doesn't know what your mark up is. So I never have to mail anything, Miller's takes care of it for me. Someone mentioned Mpix, they are own by Millers, but Millers is for businesses.
