Pattern Traffic Question

I am wondering if anyone else sees this type of traffic and if anyone can think of an explanation. My pattern site gets roughly half as many visits as my Etsy store, which is a fair amount considering I do not promote it. However, a vey very small percentage of these visits look at any of my listings. For instance this month my stats indicate that I have had 423 visits, and only 21 listings were viewed. For my Etsy site the listings viewed far exceed the visits. I don't understand how people are finding my site and why once they are there, why they are not looking at anything. The only thing I can guess, is they find it by mistake and are not searching for what I am selling. Stats indicate they come directly to my website. Is this happening with anyone else? Is there a logical explanation I am not considering?

Re: Pattern Traffic Question

That's really odd.  Off the top of my head, I don't have any idea what might be causing this.  Like you said, it's as if they hit your main page by mistake and then move on.  Weird.

I'll keep thinking about it.

Re: Pattern Traffic Question

@VintageBloomsByEllen, I just checked my numbers and they are completely different than yours. Of my 2268 visits, 86% of them were for pattern (1945), and of my 3435 views, 83% of them were for pattern (2862). I do have about twice as many listings on pattern than I do in the marketplace tho.  But still, my stats are completely different than yours.

I do not use social media either.  But I have tried to optimize my pattern listings as best as I could for the search engines.

When I have done searches on google (but to a larger degree yahoo and bing), my items usually  show up for my pattern shop before they show up for my marketplace shop - which is just the way I want it.

My only suggestion is to try to optimize for the search engines.  I think there have been a couple of discussions here in the team about how to do that.

Re: Pattern Traffic Question

Thank you for your reply. I have not spent the time to change all my listings to optimize for google search. I worked really hard getting them optimized best for Etsy. I'll need to do that, but it's so much work and I'm just not sure it'll generate the traffic. But I wont know till I try.

Re: Pattern Traffic Question

Is your pattern domain similar/same as your etsy shop name? It is possible people are expecting a florist when they click on your website, see that it is not, and go back. I'm just guessing, of course. I checked out your etsy shop, as I wasn't sure what "VintageBlooms" would be selling, if not flowers.

I think it is fantastic that you get that much traffic to your pattern shop! I've only had mine for a few months, but it's pretty much a ghost town if I'm not promoting the crap out of it!

Re: Pattern Traffic Question

I think that's very possible. That is what I was thinking too. Just strange that I should get that many clicks from people looking for a florist. It's nice that I get traffic, but if they aren't buying what I'm selling, it doesn't really help me much. Good luck with your Pattern site.
