SEO - Search Engine Optimization by BookfellStudio

Since I’ve only been on Etsy a few months, I’ve spent A LOT of time learning about SEO.

With my background in Business Analysis and Data Warehouse Software Development I was determined to understand the basics of Etsy SEO. I can be a bit of a geek when it comes to things like that.

I’m still learning but , I want to share what I learn with my Paradise family so you too, can apply it to your shop if you like.

This is a HUGE topic so I’ll post a bit here and there. Let me know if you find it interesting and useful.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Part 1: Titles, Tags and Descriptions (In the beginning…..) some tips
- Your ENTIRE title is used by Etsy to rank your item, so put your most important key words in there, but keep the title legible and let it have a natural flow of language
- Your tags should be reinforced in your description, but again try to use natural language
- The first 30 characters of your title are more important only because that’s what the buyer sees in the search results. You want to compel them to click. (Google shows the first 55-65 characters.)
- Spelling matters and so does punctuation and plurals. For example: traveler’s log, travelers log, traveler’s logs, travelers logs - these are 4 totally different terms and will render different search results
- Be careful with punctuation! Commas, dashes and slashes in your title. Always leave a space after your punctuation.
For example: notebook,planner,diary - will not be found in a search for any of these individual words because the parsing engine must have a leading space to identify a word.
The same holds true for these phrases – notebook/planner/diary notebook-planner-diary
BTW, Etsy changes and updates their search engine algorithms all the time, so all we can do is to try to get that first click – after that, once the customer has walked into our shop – it’s up to us to keep them there and keep them interested.
One of the easiest things to do to increase your traffic is to put links back to your shop sections at the bottom of your listings. Once you have a potential customer looking at your product you want to keep them there, so before they leave make it easy for them to see more of your shop.
I always put something like “More Traveler’s Notebook Inserts here: <section link>” followed by another line that will say “Back to the shop” <link>.
As a result I have higher internal traffic in my shop, more clicks on my products and therefore more relevancy in the eyes of Etsy.
This is one of the best tools I've found for SEO and listing analysis.
It's very easy to use - a highly visual interface - and easy to understand - and it's FREE.
It will grade each of your listings with an alpha grade A through E, and offer suggestions to bring its grade up.
It'll show you where your listings and shop rank compared to your competitors. It has lots of really useful tools and information.
I've pinned a link to it here. www.pinterest.com/pin/468022586256949440/
I'm not affiliated with this product, but have just been using it to increase my own relevancy. I've found it very helpful.
