Getting paper beads to glue properly when using high gloss paper

Hi All! I am having a problem with making paper beads out of high gloss heavier weight paper stock. After rolling the bead almost to the end, I apply Elmer's Glue to the ends, but the ends will not stick, even after rolling the glue around the pins several times - the tip keeps popping up. I've tried holding the end down for several seconds, but that doesn't work. I've tried "deshining" the paper ends using rubbing alcohol, but that doesn't work consistently either. Is there a product/process that will work for this issue?

I would love to know this too! I've tried using Loctite, which works better, but the end still pops up ~ and impossible for me to use without gluing my fingers to the bead.

Hi Ladies, Give me some more detail on the high gloss heavier paper stock you are using so I can try to replicate the problem and perhaps come up with a solution. Is the paper the outside cover of a magazine, card stock advertising material, or something similar?

Re: Getting paper beads to glue properly when using high gloss paper

It would be wonderful if you could find a solution!

I am trying to use my old out-of-date business cards, they are heavy-weight cards from Moo.com, quite substantial. Perhaps a little sturdier than a cereal box.

I have had success wrapping the glued bead with waxed paper and then a rubber band. The wax keeps the paper and the rubber band from sticking. A little labor intensive but the cards have such a pretty pattern and I don't want to waste them.

I would love a faster workaround :)
