Gocco tips?

I just got a gocco printer a couple days ago and I am super excited!

I was wondering if any of you have worked with the gocco before and if you have any tips you are willing to share.

Thanks!

Re: Gocco tips?

Well, what type of machine did you get? A basic?
One tip which I wished i knew from the beginning:
when you expose the screen, make sure there is a few layer of paper or something that will soften the padded squares (where you put the paper that will be printed). If you don't you risk having them permanently as a feature of your design.

And another, don't bother to try to clean your screens, if it is not a limited edition and perhaps you plan to print it again, once you have finished with it for the day, put it in a zip-lock bag or cling wrap and pop it in the freezer. It takes it about 10 minutes to warm up again when you take it out, but the ink will be fine and the screen preserved.

Enjoy your printing and experimenting!

Re: Gocco tips?

Thank you! I have a b6 hi mesh. It took me forever to find out what model it even was because I thought that they only came in the pg series...

I will remember that about the padded squares. I saw a couple tutorials where they had extra paper there and now it makes sense.

Thanks again!

Re: Gocco tips?

Another tip... Before you burn your screen, make sure the artwork is dry by either ironing it (on the back, not the carbon side) or blowdrying it. Humidity can cause a patchy burn - you want it bone dry. Nehoc (here in Aus) sells clean up paper (which looks & feels like regular tracing paper - maybe it is?) which you iron over the artwork to remove any excess carbon before you burn your screen. Too much carbon in the print will clog the mesh & cause a patchy burn. I use a laser printer, & set the printer setting so it's not too dark - less toner means your screens won't clog.

Another tip...I always use ink blocker even when doing a one colour print. It stops the ink spreading so you get a more even print, & it also means you don't have to reink as often for larger runs.

Re: Gocco tips?

I am curious about Gocco printers. I was thinking about getting one but know very little about them. Is it pointless to get one because they no longer make the materials needed to use them? Or do they still make Gocco printers and supplies?
I love the work I have seen made by them. I have experience in relief, etching, monotypes etc. Any advice?

Re: Gocco tips?

And also, if there are different models, which one is the best to get?
