Demo, video & tutorials?

My workshop has been working on some demo videos’. And I wondered if anyone else had anything of that sort they might like to share?

Here’s a tutorial style video of me demonstrating collagraph. http://vimeo.com/50941703
And here’s an example of the finished work.

I've been rather anxious at seeing my little old self on video - but now it's done - it might as well get seen!

This a great idea Lynn. Can we share your video on the Printsy blog?

Re: Demo, video & tutorials?

Ooo Yes please. Might as well get it out there.
So far my workshop has made three demonstration videos and another of my colleagues is doing the fourth and final (for now) demo. Then there will be short videos of us giving top tips for the different disciplines we are demonstrating.

Sounds great! I'll post the one of you (and any other Printsy members who leave a link here) and direct readers to your studio for other demo videos.

Re: Demo, video & tutorials?

We could really do with more Printsy blog content. Any tutorials would be most welcome, with or without a video.

Re: Demo, video & tutorials?

Lynn, you could make, like, a dozen more videos and I would still be rapt! I loved it! Next, I hope you demonstrate your methods for including plant material impressions in an edition. (I can't get past two or three before they fall apart!)

Re: Demo, video & tutorials?

Ah yes Monique – know your weeds... Some are not as tough as they look and some are surprisingly resilient. It also helps if they have been pressed for the “right” length of time. Not too fresh or their soft cells will burst and all you’ve got is pulp. Not so old that they are very brittle and crumble to dust. You are just going to have to play!

Re the demo videos - Double Elephant Print Workshop got funding to produce 4 demo videos and 4 shorter ‘top-tips’. We are releasing them slowly over time and don’t know when we will be able to make more. Simon Ripley who I set the up the workshop with all those years ago, has done the mono print video (& the relief print demo yet to be released). Our colleague Catherine Cartwright (shcools co-ordinator) has done the drypoint demo.

I will let you know when my collagraph top-tips is released. The other’s don’t have Etsy shops but would people like me to alert you to them too??? There has kindly been a link added to the
Printsy Blog to take you to the other Double Elephant videos. – Thanks ever-so for that.

Re: Demo, video & tutorials?

We've posted other non-Printsy printmaking videos before. Why not suggest any you would recommend. Blog content is always appreciated!

(Also, I have the labour-intensive idea that one could make a cast of plant material and then a plant replica in something harder-than-plants and use that for collographs).

Ele - I had to laugh! My husband is always teasing me for coming up with ever more labor-intensive, time-consuming art! But, of course, I immediately started thinking of how I could implement your idea! ;-)

Lynn - I hunted down all the Double Elephant vids already! ;-) Wonderful! And I have been experimenting with mixed results. Some prints up soon though; You are such an inspiration!

Re: Demo, video & tutorials?

Also thinking of Ele's conundrum and remembered that I have also got some "ceramic prints" (not listed here, too difficult to post). They are imprints from plant materials, but they are all "innies" and i think you want "outies".

As it is I do embed plant materials into paint (emulsion paint or you could use gesso) when constructing collagraphs. Some plants behave themselves very well, some are hopeless. But if you have your plant over a thick enough bed of paint it can leave a very satisfactory impression of where it's been if it happens to fall off. (or you pull it off).

It's not that labour intensive to lay down a good layer of gesso, squish pant into the paint layer, leave to dry, and pick off plant. - go on Ele - you know you want to..........

One more Double Elephant top Tip vid to go and there’ll be the whole set!

Re: Demo, video & tutorials?

Ha! Oh, dear, do not encourage my natural instinct to do things the hard way. ;)
(Though gesso sounds much easier than what I might have planned left to my own devices).

I've added a nifty new app to the blog which pulls listings from printsy members' shops for automatic-random treasuries, and will add more videos from Double Elephant.

Re: Demo, video & tutorials?

Today, I added another tutorial by one of Lynn's colleagues at Double Elephant to the blog and have been seeking other videos by Printsy members. Any one else have a video or tutorial to share (non-Printsy printmaking videos are also welcome).

Re: Demo, video & tutorials?

Here's the latest demo video from Double Elephant.
This time I'm covering photo etching (& feeling very old and wrinkly. So hard to do these things when you're vain!)

I think Josh, our film man, does a jolly good job with the editing!

....Hope you enjoy......
