Selling Patterns on Other Sites

Today, Craftsy went live selling patterns from independent designers. You can list a pattern and you get paid directly in PayPal - no charges to list or sell.

I also have a pattern on You Can Make This - they take half, I believe.

Just thought I'd share other venues to sell your patterns.

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

I have also started selling on Craftsy. How do you sell on you can make this? Do you need special permissions?

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

Hi Taya,

It has been a little while, so I can't remember the exact process. The website is www.youcanmakethis.com I believe you have to submit your pattern for approval. I had to do some editing before they would accept it. Good luck!

Thanks Jane! It sounds like quite the process. I'll submit a pattern and see what happens!

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

I just listed on Craftsy today. Do either of you have any pointers? Have you actually had any sales? I would love to hear about your experience.

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

I've had several sales. I would take some time to work on your bio/profile. I think it's exciting because Craftsy is growing.

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

Thank you Jane ! You are my new best friend! I never even heard of Craftsy before you posted this. I decided to upload a couple of my patterns late last night and I already got a sale today!

So for anyone considering this, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

Hi Heather! I just now noticed you here. How have you been?

Like I stated in my post above, you should definitely list some patterns at Craftsy. I'm sure they will sell well.

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

Hi Sheryl! Glad to hear it! Motivates you to make more, doesn't it? And it helps to promote Craftsy, too - tweet, etc. You can't beat it as another venue to sell your patterns.

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

Yes Jane. i couldn't agree more. Like I mentioned in the sewing team earlier:

"I like to keep my eggs in lots of little baskets! My Etsy basket, my website basket, my Craftsy basket, my publishing company's baskets, and I'm sure there are lots more baskets out there I haven't found yet!"

I'll be looking for more baskets.....

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

I have made some sales on craftsy too. I seem to have more success after I edit a pattern or add a new one, so I wonder if it's similar to renewing??? Has anyone else had a similar experience or is it just a coincidence?

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

I sell on Patternspot.com also, but they take about 1/2 in fees and I actually sell more on etsy.

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

To those who sell on other sites that take around 50%, do you think it's worth it? I've thought about doing You Can Make This. I have even submitted some patterns, but just haven't gone through the whole process yet. I kind of feel like 50% is too much for them to take, and I have a hard time doing it!

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

Thanks heaps for this thread! Am uploading to craftsy as I type.

I also agree with you Taya, I think 50% is a bit too rich for me. Believe in yourself and your product. I'm sure there are other ways for you to 'get out there'.

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

I agree, lots of little baskets, add up the sales.

Have you seen Luula.com? I set up this http://www.luulla.com/store/getsewing

PatternSpot.com I sell patterns there, they're download automatically and they keep a percent and send payment regularly.

I set up free at Meylah.com http://meylah.com/getsewing/pdf-sewing-pattern-the-easiest-little-girls-skirt-pattern

At YouCanMakeThis.com I'm involved in submitting process there. They keep a percent, but they're automatically downloaded there too.

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

Thanks for the other sites. I will check those out. I hit the bonanza on Craftsy this week because they featured my pattern in their newsletter! I sold a lot! It was very exciting - lots of exposure, too. So definitely give it a chance!

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

I'm definitely going to check out these other sites as well. Jane, you're right about Craftsy, I'm selling good there as well. Congratulations on the newsletter exposure. Hope one of my patterns makes it to that as well.

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

Thanks for telling about Craftsy.com . I set up a shop there. Got only one pattern uploaded so far, been away all weekend.

I just saw an etsy member give a link to www.storenvy.com for online shops, I will check that out too.

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

I have a basket! www.sewmanypatterns.com has instant download feature as well (I'm the owner, by the way). I have many more designers read to be uploaded right now, and am always looking for more designers to feature on there. I feature mostly apparel and gifts/toys/accessories for kids and mamas. We are still new (open just over a year) but are selling more patterns every month. Email/convo me if anyone has questions!

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

I know it has been awhile since this thread has been live... but I spoke in personal with several staff members at Craftsy this month.

During the process, I learned that they place value on the size of your following. That said, it is important that we grow our following as designers.

Please post a link to your shop. This way, we can all become fans.

Another tip/trick is to add projects. In the last two plus weeks, I have added 3 projects and have noticed a jump in my following and my sales.

Here is a link to my shop.

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

Hi everyone, I'm a new member! I was contacted by this shop

www.pinsandneedlespatterns.com/

They take 40%. Still a bit steep, but I think I may start selling on a few more sites as I slowly build by shop. I've had some success on Craftsy but I find it's not as known or as easy to shop. If you sell on there you've probably received their designer poll and seen the results: they are going to put more work behind the shopping/selling experience which is amazing!
