Today, Craftsy went live selling patterns from independent designers. You can list a pattern and you get paid directly in PayPal - no charges to list or sell.

I also have a pattern on You Can Make This - they take half, I believe.

Just thought I'd share other venues to sell your patterns.

And on that note, off to follow others on Craftsy! Didn't know that mattered.

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

Maria,
I found your Craftsy store in this thread. No need to repost. Think about adding a project.
Here is an example of one of mine. http://www.craftsy.com/project/view/sun-flower-pin-cushion-collection/58588

It is directly linked to one of my for sale patterns. So, it does not need to be something for free.

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

Yes, Maria. You just load up your projects with a few pictures and then it is in the que. It is very similar to loading your pattern. You just fill in the blanks. I also have 2 free patterns listed and they are being downloaded almost everyday.

I have found a few more places to sell patterns for wholesale and have reached out to them... Not sure what all the details are yet.

Go To Patterns, Fairytale Frocks & Lollipops, Patterns Only, Sew Baby, Allegro Fabrics, Sew Mama Sew, Funky Fabrix, and The Fabric Fairy

If anyone has worked with them before, please let us know the details.

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

I would like to see Craftsy take off in a big way. Many of us have been there since the first days and when it does become big, that should hopefully be to our advantage.

I've been selling quite well there since I started. Right now I usually sell at least one pattern a day there and my freebies are downloaded a lot more than that.

I remember the first night I listed. I went to bed and woke up to a sale. That was a good sign for me.

Also, I don't know if I mentioned this elsewhere or not but Meylah.com also has storefronts, free to list, and immediate downloads. Haven't sold anything there yet though for my graphic shop or my pattern shop. I was hoping that would change with the holiday season. We'll see.

Heather, I'm gathering some files together to send you. I plan to email you tonight after I get home from work.

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

I think I'm following all of you on both of my Crafsy shops. If I missed someone, let me know.

I also have a paper crafting shop there:

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

Hi all. I haven't set myself up on Craftsy yet but it sounds like a great site that will get better as more people discover it.

I wholesale my patterns through a few online fabric and pattern shops and they all ask for a 50% cut.

I did think that this was a little bit unfair at first because of the very low overheads associated with retailing a digital pattern - no storage, packing, posting etc. etc. Unfortunately, however, it seems that the percentage is widespread and established. I'd be interested to know if anyone has negotiated their way out of that rate, but suspect not?!

Marina :)

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

Marina,
I have been building my wholesale accounts and would love to know where you sell your patterns. I have found that it is mostly it is a 50/50 split. It was hard to swallow at 1st but now I am over it!

My goal is to expand my reach and have more exposure.

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

Hi Heather,

I sell through Pink Chalk Fabrics, Fairytale Frocks & Lollipops, Magpie Patterns and another fabric seller here on etsy Sewlovefabrics.

There are other stores which I've noticed others who have posted in this thread have mentioned such as Sew Mama Sew.... I get approached from time to time by others but tend to stick to the ones with higher traffic and established reputations!

It's a great way of getting more exposure for your patterns but obviously there's the hefty commission to consider.

Good luck!

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

For those of you who sell on multiple sites, do you sometimes have different prices running on different sites? Obviously the standard, everyday price should be the same wherever I have a shop (Etsy, Craftsy).

But I would love to offer a special holiday coupon for my customers, for say a week. Most of my pattern sales come from Craftsy, however, so should I also lower my pattern prices comparably so the Craftsy prices are the same as the Etsy ones? I don't want to upset customers, but it seems reasonable to me to offer a special deal on one site but not another.

What are others doing?

Re: Selling Patterns on Other Sites

I keep my prices the same at all my shops. However, I do offer a Buy 2 - Get 1 Free at my Etsy shop only, only because I sell graphics too. I'm thinking about splitting the shops up though.
