How to Ship Origami

Alas, I have yet to make a sale, but to be prepared I created this thread so we can talk about how to ship origami. I know origami is a fragile, and easily bent art, so it has to be packaged carefully. Does anyone have suggestions?

Re: How to Ship Origami

if its small enough, i would put it in a jewelry box. you can get them relatively cheaply, especially if you buy in bulk.

Re: How to Ship Origami

Depending on the model, I have successfully shipped smaller models in zip-top bags that I inflated to create a plastic bubble with the model inside. As long as it's not prone to damage by moving around inside the bubble and as long as the bubble doesn't get squashed it should be okay.

Re: How to Ship Origami

Depend on what is the creation you plan to ship. Basic crane, ship them flat. Flower with stem - wrap them with tissue paper, add crumble tissue aperture at the bottom and top of the box to prevent it move a lot during the shipping.
Basically the main point s eep them stable in the box.
Make sure put "caution" label around the box.
Once I put label on each side of the box, but UPS still damage my box. When I fill claim with the pictures, they can't dined at all.
Hope will help. Good luck on sales.

Re: How to Ship Origami

Hello Helen, I am not sure if your message was for me or others.
From my experience (I also make crepe paper flower, but not often), the shipping is same. Most important for shipping origami items was make sure no room for the origami move (or as little as possible), I insert lot of tissue paper around the empty space, because tissue will fill up the space and won't damage the origami (specially the flower). In some case, I will wrap with clear gift wrap first, it will help to limited the movement while shipping.
Before I list, I usually will ship one to a out of town friend, so they can tell me if the shipping is good or not.
Hope it will help!

Re: How to Ship Origami

Thank you for this thread! I especially like the fill a zip-top bag. I was just looking at the bubbled air from a package at work and wondered how small a size those things come. I never thought to inflate my own bag! Thank you!

Re: How to Ship Origami

Thanks for this thread guys, this is insanely useful! I make a lot of jewellery (small pieces) so I usually just bubble wrap the outside of the pouches I make for it. Little jewellery boxes are ideal though.

Re: How to Ship Origami

I usually ship the goods wrapped in bubble wrap and with a generous amount of crumpled paper around it to act as a buffer in case of any incidents.

Also, for smaller origami models, acrylic spheres come in handy. They are quite cheap and provide some protection.
