A note on critiques

We have some amazingly generous members and leaders on our team and, at times, they are willing to spend twenty to sixty minutes of their busy day to write a shop critique for other members. When they share their time that way, I am always so thankful for the great people we have on our team.

The problem is, there are far more requests for critiques than there are moments in our days to write them. Personal critiques take a lot of time to write. If you have requested one, and no one has given you feedback, please don't take it personally. We are all busy people.

There are things you can do to attract more feedback, though. The most useful thing is to be specific. Instead of asking for a general critique, do a little homework, read the threads with critiques in them and learn the basics there. Then, when you think you have gathered all the general information, find one or two things to ask the group, such as, "Are my pictures too dark?" Or, "Are my descriptions interesting enough?" It is far easier for us to answer a specific question than to take an hour or so to tell you everything you can do to improve.

As a group, we can all contribute to shop critiques with just one or two suggestions. You don't have to go through everything, you can glance at their shop and tell them what you like and what can be improved upon, taking only a few minutes of your time. If lots of us did that, the shop owner will have plenty of great ideas on how to improve his or her shop.

In this group, we are all both newbies AND mentors, so let's help each other out as much as time permits.

Re: A note on critiques

Thanks for the tips! I feel weird about asking for a critique, but I am always looking for feedback. This gives me some ideas on what I can do without soaking up too much of other people's time.

Re: A note on critiques

The shop banner and photo comment intrigues me. I don't have a lot of offerings at this time in my shop, wasn't sure what to use for mine so I went with pictures that inspire me personally. I can see where they can be mis-leading to a shopper after reading through this. Do you recommend using an item currently for sale? I have some pieces that I've kept for myself (don't we all?) and my "style" is evolving.

Re: A note on critiques

Thank you so much for this advice. I am trying to make and list more items in my shop and trying to improve upon my descriptions of the items, my profile, etc. I don't have a lot of items in my shop right now but would appreciate if someone had the time to take a look and let me know their opinion of my listings, descriptions. Thank you.

Hoping I can get some help to start selling some of my items, and getting more views.

Re: A note on critiques

Just a reminder-- this thread is not the place to ask for critiques. Also, it is strongly advised that you read the first post in this thread before asking for critiques.

Re: A note on critiques

Amy if it's possible to show items for sale on your banner along with your shop name I think that would be great. I know my banner needs work among other things, but for now to will have to do.

Re: A note on critiques

Nancy first of all you need to get more items listed. I only have 60 in my shop right now and that's not nearly enough either. The glare on the pink frame distracts from the cute frame. I'm not sure how to handle glare as I have it in some of my photos as well. Remember that the title should be words that people would type in when trying to find an item-whatever words describe your item should be there. Also the title, tags and description should have the same phrases/words in them for best search results. I'm no pro and I know my shop needs a lot of work, but that much I have learned so far. Good luck!

Re: A note on critiques

Dawn, I just took a look and it might be nice if you had a solid white background for all of your colored jewelry so it could shine brighter in contrast and perhaps all of your light jewelry with a darker background for the features to "pop".

Re: A note on critiques

Dawn,

This is not the right place to ask for a critique. You are welcome to start a thread asking, but please, please, please, read the first posting in this thread and then go to the critique archive and read those.

There is a wealth of information that is ready and waiting for you.
