Here's some info and links to talk about some of the common scams people try on Etsy. It's sad to think it happens, but it's good to be aware!

Re: Tips of the Day!

Another great read, I too am having trouble figuring out the keyword/search thing.

I am trying to add a new product each day, any feedback from you would be appreciated!

What I have learned so far is that is it so easy to get lost reading the Etsy forums and browsing through all the stores. What a fun place to "work".

Happy Tuesday! Now off to my real job for the day!

Re: Tips of the Day!

Nicole, you are brave having Charlie as a helper with all that yarn around! I have 5 cats (I know, I know, but when you live in the country, people think they can just drop them and they will take care of themselves and I am a sucker for pets) and have to go into the other room to make my plant hangers.

Re: Tips of the Day!

Love this thread, huge help, thanks!! I'll be sure to start holding onto the links I've found useful and post them!
I think it's kinda funny looking at some of the scam ones. It's weird how the scammer seems to use the same canned messages for these things. When I was moving out of state and looking for a new place, I received a lot of those types of messages when I'd inquire about their property.

Re: Tips of the Day!

I just noticed this in the forums yesterday.

Need a cheap - even free - photo editor? Check out - Picmonkey.com - I haven't tried it myself with a product photo, but I played with it for a while and it seems very user friendly and the basics are FREE!

I especially like the ability to easily add text on top of a photo (great for sales or special items) and create collages (if 5 photos is just not enough).

Re: Tips of the Day!

Why it may be a good idea to consider international shipping... Etsy has now released direct check out to 15 new countries!!

Re: Tips of the Day!

I'm not sure if this got mentioned already, but I was on the forums last night and someone suggested that if you want to be a seller, you need to also be a buyer. If you haven't sold much or anything you won't have much feedback which might make potential buyers turn away from your shop. Buying a few things can help you get positive positive feedback and make you look like an active etsy user. Hope that helps!

Re: Tips of the Day!

I just had a lightbulb go off... If you look at a listing page for your items and scroll down to the bottom to see your tags (not while you are in edit, but as the customer would see the page). The first few tags you see are one word tags. These tags are freebies from the drop down "categories" menu when you first list your item... For example, many of mine start with "crochet" and "scarf". Just wanted you all to have a heads up since these tags probably don't need to be repeated :o)

Re: Tips of the Day!

I check my shop stats an unhealthy amount of times each day, but I think paying attention to the keywords section has helped me refine my tags and even come up with new ones. I've been able to boost many of my listings up to the first few pages of search results for certain search phrases.

Not sure if this counts as a "tip", but to all of the necklace/jewelry makers on the list, great display idea on Pinterest...

Re: Tips of the Day!

I have tried other online sales but little success, one because I don't enjoy cold sales and two I wasn't passionate about the products. Opening my etsy shop, however, brought my passions and my desire to network with like minded people together. My success plan right now is as follows 1. increase social media exposure 2. join teams 3. get involved in forums. As a fellow newbie I hope this works and I will shout to the sky any positive results I get.. Hope this helps.
