Custom order question

Hi all. Still finding my feet around here and I have a question. I'm about to add a new item to my shop, but unlike most of my little bags and shoes that are mostly one offs, I am making little slippers that I can do in a variety of colours. I've been busy today making pairs in the different colours so I can take a photo of them all together. I'd like to offer people a choice of what colour they want, but not sure how to go about it.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Norma

Re: Custom order question

I think that's a wonderful idea! It seems that the sellers on Etsy who offer custom orders do very well. I have seen, when shopping on Etsy myself, that sellers are now able to put a drop down menu next to the "add to cart" button that allows the buyer to choose which color they would like.
However, I can't seem to figure out how to do this. Maybe someone else on the team can help.

Re: Custom order question

I think that's a great idea too. I was reading a book about arts and craft businesses and it said to watch people and see what they like~don't do everything to your own taste. Boy, am I guilty of that one. I like red and neon so I figure the whole world likes it too~not so, and a lot of people do stuff by color and theme.

Re: Custom order question

Hi Norma,

I would suggest putting each color up as it's own listing. The more listings you have the better chance you will get seen in the searches. Which will bring more buyers into your shop. :-)

If you are going to do the single listings. Use "backlinks" to your shop offering the item in the other colors.

Edit to add: If you are going to do this item in custom, make sure you add custom to the backside of your title and have it as a tag. :-)

Re: Custom order question

As another option, this prototype let's you add size, color, scent, length, or whatever you'd like next to the add to cart button: http://www.etsy.com/teams/12471/listing-variations

It'll look like this: https://www.etsy.com/listing/106638094/labrador-retriever-beaded-dog-keychain

Re: Custom order question

Thanks for the responses. I guess I have a few options. After I posted this question and turned the computer off for the night, I had a thought, because they are not a custom order as such (at anytime, I could have a few pairs of each colour already made), so my listing could reflect that I have say six units available and just get the buyer to convo me with their colour choice.
Of course, I might just stick with separate listings for each colour.
Might have to think on it a little before I list.

Re: Custom order question

You have to join the variations team for the color variations options to show up for you, just in case that was missed earlier. If you don't see the option there that's why. If you want these options, go to community & teams & search for the listing variations team ;0)

Re: Custom order question

I've seen something from time to time asking if I wanted to join the colour variation team. Hadn't really taken a lot of notice of it, but of course when I thought I might be interested in something like that, I couldn't find it lol. For now, I might just stick to individual listings for each colour as suggested by Warren, and just make a note that other colours are available with a link back to my store.
