Any pointers on selling outside of the U.S.??

Hello fello Etsy shop owners! I was wondering if anyone has any insight/tips for selling to different countries on here.

Some questions that are floating around my head....

What shipping costs should be charged?
Policies and mail carriers preferred ?
What is the quickest/easiest system people have found when shipping abroad?!

Thanks you guys and I hope this helps a few others as well:)

Re: Any pointers on selling outside of the U.S.??

I made a sale to Canada, shipped it (International) USPS on 2/5 and USPS still says it's sorting in Jamaica, NY. So... I've got nothing. I'm scared to try again.

I ship my items worldwide by Registered Air Mail (inclusive of a tracking code). This is the safest method for me, since I sell vintage, OAAK things. I have never had any problems to date.

As for the pricing rates, I get advice from my local post office, since pricing relates to package size and weight.

Re: Any pointers on selling outside of the U.S.??

USPS is the least expensive way to ship internationally that I've found so far. They have hiccups, sometimes things don't get scanned properly or seem to fall into a mysterious void for a few weeks, but everything I've ever shipped through them has reached it's destination eventually. My partner has shipped thousands of international packages and agrees that USPS is the most reliable and affordable way to go.

Endicia is a great mailing program if you are willing to pay the $15 monthly fee. It's nice to ship from home and just put packages in the mailbox for the mailman to pick up.

Hope this helps!

Re: Any pointers on selling outside of the U.S.??

There is this great new section on Etsy under shipping profiles and you can put in the place and the estimated weight. I just recently updated that I can ship internationally thru usps and it was easy for me to figure out pricing since most of my packages are all around the same weight per item.
We will see when someone international orders now!
