Hello Thank you Ginny for your reply as well you have some really good ideas, thank you. Like Captain Richard said I'd like to have a title that fits the shops overall theme and still have keywords for google search ex, Children Curtains Custom Hand-Crafted and still not take away that there is other products as well in the shop.
I think the audience to the shop are collectors of film, movie fans and parents who want to do their childrens rooms to their favorite characters. yet I don't want to leave anyone out. Plus people who want special items for holidays to decorate their home and yards
What kind of two word store title can do all that?
I'd like to thank eveyone that is helping me with this I really do appreciate your time and effort.
New to this team so I just wanted to say Hi! I recognize a few of you from Vintage Toy Addiction, The Joy of Toys, & Blossom but a good portion of you I don't quite know yet. I'm all about the 80s & 90s toys! I love them & feature them in my shop. But I love all kinds of vintage toys & books. So drop by & say Hi sometime & check out my shop if you like 80s & 90s toys. Don't let the name fool you, I have more than just Barbies & girly toys, lol. I'm always interested in feedback so let me know how I'm doing & leave me a link to your shop so I can look around & bring my followers =)
Another strategy to your dilemma then may be to change your approach to searching rather than changing your shop name. To improve your standing on Google, Bing, and others is to dominate the amount of hits through good use of key words.
Being Polish, I have an extremely limited audience who understands what Renesans means...let alone remember how to spell it. I resolved this issue by attaching Renesans (pronounced as Renaissance and means the same) to my name on the internet. I list Renesans to my LinkedIn profile, created a Renesans profile on Manta, created a Renesans profile on Google. etc.
The point is this - to dominate the search engines, I added my hobby name wherever I am I at - increasing my overall visibility. This includes Pinterest, other social profiles, Twitter, and professional profiles.
Now, when you Google Lars Ray, you'll see me everywhere on the first page on Google - including Renesans. And no....I'm not the same Lars Ray who is in the Oregon prison.
The has been a very effective strategy, increasing my overall visibility three fold. As the visibility increases, eventually the sales go up as well. Just a thought that may work for you as well.
Lars Thank you for that information I just changed my profile name on both Twitter and Pinterest to "Can Create. I will keep the title name of Can Create since I had the name during the late eighties. I'm so grateful! I never heard of LinkedIn or Manta I just signed up.. You have been such a huge help and a blessing! Thank you
Here is a HUGE question I struggle with all the time.... how many times do you renew something? Sometimes I wait a few months to renew an items and sometimes I don't renew them at all.... but somethings I think are so cool or so beautiful and I have renewed 2-3 times already, do I keep renewing or is it just cool to me and no one else likes it????
Hi Ginny - I have used my own sense of value to determine how many times I renew something. When I first started my woodshop here on Etsy back in 2010, I was advised to renew my listings every two weeks to keep my items at the top of the list in my category. With so many new postings every day, there was no way I could remain on top.
I have since learned that eventually, everything will be seen and sold. Today, I only renew each listing when it expires. Renewing more often has not increased visitors to my shop(s) nor produced additional sales.
I have all day to wait for sales, so I take the position of posting once and renew "as necessary". This allows me to use other, less costly marketing strategies such as team involvement and treasuries.
This may not work for everyone, but it certainly works well for me.
I hope this response adds value to your considerations and provides at least one other perspective for you to consider.
Agreed with Lars...I feel sometimes I list things and think they are so cool but they sit and sit and expire. And then when I renew it will sometimes sell right away because it looks fresh to someone... its at the top of the list again. But this only works sometimes. I have somethings I had to renew 2 or 3 times before they sold... but they did eventually sell. So maybe let some things sit expired for a bit then renew like at the begining of the next month.
Oh thats something I would share - I almost always get 2-4 sales the 1st day or two of the month. So I always try to list some new items the 1st of the month.
I started out collecting dolls about 30 years ago and then went on to Happy Meal Toys and then other toys until my house was running over with toys. In the back of my mind was always the idea that I would one day have my own shop and the internet and especially ETSY have helped make that dream come true for me. I sold on EBAY for awhile, but found it too impersonal. Initially, I tried selling handmade jewelry and other crafts on ETSY, but finally found that my true niche was toys. I like the fact that toys tug at the hearts of my customers. I love it when they share their stories about their childhood toys and how happy they are to have found them again or how they want to share the toys they had with their children.
SO I was wondering how everyone did on Black Friday and Cyber Monday? I don't think too much changed at my shop... sold a couple of things thanksgiving day. But still about the same as my average sales!?
Joyce - can I come and play at your house?? In my dreams!!!
Ginny - great question. I sold one car, which is 100% more than I expected to sell. With that said, however, the one car I sold was one of the first three I owned back in 1969, and one of my higher priced cars. Sort of makes up for others not selling that day!
I usually renew about 3 times and then I try to decide something else to do with the item ..though if its an item that isn't selling but is getting me a ton of views Ill keep renewing it
I hope everyone had a great Christmas and a great new years
Happy New Year Everyone!! How is everyone's month/year starting out? My wife's shop as well as my own have not had any sales yet as of the 1st of the year. But I know some areas are having record breaking cold weather this week... so maybe that has something to do with it?!! Good Luck Everyone!
Anyone interested in being a leader?? When I created the team I had all the free time in the world... but now I have to part time work. So if anyone would be interested it would be most helpful... maybe just stop by 2 days a week would be great! Thanks everyone!
