Cat Talk

Abby, my tuxedo cat, has a scratchy little voice. Tonight, I imitated her voice, and Bob -- her brother -- STARED AT ME and came right over, eyes ENORMOUS! I did it again, while he was inches away, and his tail became poofy! Then Abby came over! WHAT WAS I SAYING TO THEM? I guess that's what happens when you try to use a foreign language, but you don't know the vocabulary!

I do this with BillyBob but he has never fluffed up (more like - he looks at me like I am a complete and utter fool!!)....you must have been swearing in cat language! Poor Bob and Abby!! :-)

That's HILARIOUS! I've always imitated my cats' voices and I've never gotten a reaction like that! You must have a special talent! I find that they like it if I imitate their style of meow when I call them; for instance, Peat has a whiny voice so I call Peeeeeaaatyyyyy in a whiny voice, but Rory has a bright, cheerful voice so I use that when I call him. Rory tries to say Sara- it sounds like "Rara!" when he calls ME.

When we first got Norman Matt would imitate his meows, and he would look at Matt with this funny look, then make a different sounding meow. Matt would imitate that one, then Norman would come back with another. I have no idea what they talked about but after a few minutes Norman would give up and walk away. Lela on the other hand couldn't care less if you meow at her. Or talk to her. I swear one night though she meowed "Norman" while she was caterwauling downstairs after Matt and I went to bed. At first it scared me, I thought there was a person in the house calling out to Norman. Crazy!

We talk to the cats in our house in what we call 'catonese' but have never had anything other than them come running for a treat or a social meow back at us. Hmmm.....bush tail, must have accented the wrong syllable.

Cheeto will talk to me in the morning and when I talk back he usually answers.....I have no idea what we are saying but I figure it's good interaction with him..........

...I haven't had the nerve to try my new "skill" since that night! I was hoping for a little kitty conversation, but I suspect I said something completely inappropriate!
