I'm getting a new kitty!

It's been more than six months now that our dear kitten Bonnie died, time to move on. This morning I pre-adopted a kitten! Like Bonnie, this kitten is a female and is silver with darker grey markings, but the new kitten is a tabby with amazing swirls and blotches of color rather than stripes. An unusual thing about this kitten (and her 5 littermates) is that she was born white like a siamese. As she grew older the grey color started to show on her ears, then down her tail and on her legs, but unlike a siamese the color came out on the rest of her body as dark as on her "points"- go figure! Her eyes haven't changed color yet; it would be super-cool eyes turned out siamese blue, but I'm not holding my breath.

It will be another month or so before she'll be fully weaned, and then probably a couple of weeks before she can be spayed and come home. Hopefully by then we'll have picked out a name for her!

oh congrats!! new kitties never can replace old kitties, but they make their own tender memories, which will also be irreplaceable!

YAY! it is true that a new kitty is never a replacement for a kitty you had, but they are their own little sweetness. Congrats. Dallas Alice had a birthday in June, and has been a learning experience for all of us!

Nope. Penny died this morning. A necropsy was performed, but it was inconclusive. I'm beginning to think I'm cursed- this one didn't even make it to my house!

We're going to wait awhile before looking for another one. I don't think I'll be adopting from this shelter anymore. As far as I know no-one else has had any problems with their cats from there, just me.

Two other kittens (also pre-adopted) also died last weekend of the same symptoms. They found a bacterial infection in their lungs and have determined that as the cause. The weird thing is that they were from two different litters (Penny in one, Ginger and Al in another) that were in different rooms. The two moms and their remaining kittens are in a quarantine room and are on antibiotics. The other kittens at the shelter- all 57 of them!- all seem fine though, thank goodness!

So sad to hear Sara. maybe you should try a kill shelter for adoption. O
our Alice is the first to come from the pound and is certainly hale and hearty.

it is good to hear that the others seem okay. what a bummer for you. i hope you finally find a healthy kitty for yourself soon.

Very Sorry for your loss.
I am Not sure where you live.. But how about just checking Craig's list? People in the county always seem to have kittens for free to a good home.

I am out in the country and our neighbor's barn cat had kittens and I took one 2.5 weeks ago.
He is healthy as can be.. we saw the vet 2 days after he came home with me. We go back next week for another set of baby shots. He is now 10.5 wks old. Buff colored. Long haired and Blue-Grey eyes. A bundle of fun.
Best part is my older male loves him and the younger male is ok with him (hasn't decided whether it is okay or not yet!).

Wow, Homespun you new kitten sounds beautiful! I'm glad your boys are all right with him.

There seems to be an explosion of kittens this year, our Humane society received 60 kittens in ONE week! I'm trying to convince the other member of our household that we need to adopt TWO kittens so they can play together and gang up on our boy cats, but I also want a dog so I don't think that will fly- haha.
