Feeling SO Guilty

I adopted Annie, the love of my life, last January and can't imagine that anyone would take this purring little people loving cat to a shelter. She has me wrapped around her little paw and makes me feel so guilty when I leave her all day to do a craft show. I am actually glad that I only have one more show for this year so she does not have to spend hours alone. I know she probably just sleeps the day away but I still feel bad. Am I alone in feeling this way? Do I need therapy?
Any input would be helpful and hopefully convince me that I am not a bad parent.

Re: Feeling SO Guilty

You are certainly not a bad parent, and definitely not alone! I can't stand leaving my 5-month old Joonie alone even if I just have to run to the store, let alone my day job :( I hate the thought of her being sad at home, wondering why I left and asking herself when, or even if, I'll be back. I always feel incredibly guilty!

But it's all so worth it when I walk in the door after a long day, and I see her sitting there waiting for me right on schedule. I get the best greetings and purrs from her after not being home for so long.

I don't think you need therapy... And if so, then you're definitely not alone! because then I need it too :-P

Thanks for the reassurance. I was hoping I was not alone or "crazy" to be feeling this way.

Re: Feeling SO Guilty

It helps when you have two. Here's what I think...they wait in anticipation for the minute we all leave in the morning, giving them the house to themselves for the whole day. They tear around, lay on things they shouldn't, walk on my pillow, everything they're not supposed to do...then they go find a nice ray of sunshine and sleep the rest of the day away.

When I walk in the door at night, they rouse themselves enough to come get a scratch on the head and a scoop of food...then off they go again.

So, no, don't feel guilty! :)

Re: Feeling SO Guilty

They do sleep an awful lot, although I definitely hate leaving them. I agree that it is helps to have two. I had 2 that were not that great of friends but I have remedied that.... I got an 8 month old kitten for Thanksgiving! Things are definitely getting better.

Re: Feeling SO Guilty

Although I have two, Tastyfoot and Short, Dark and Angry, and I still feel guilty. When they run to you for some love and you don't have the time because you're getting out orders, i feel crummy. It's certainly better than last year when I only had Tastyfoot. I swear she looked at me with such a sense of betrayal.
