A question for all you geek crafters...

Has anyone been contacted about copyright infringement? I put up a Batman headband a while ago and was sort of threatened by DC. I have tons of upcycled comic book collage/bottlecap pieces I want to put up for sale and some Dr. Who stuff, but I'm scared that my shop will be shut down.

How do you guys do it? Are there certain rules? I would especially like to hear from @CustomComix if possible.

Thanks so much guys!

I'm leery of using any copyrighted material in my work that's for sale. I wish I could! I have some fun ideas.

A friend of mine had one of her cross stitch quotes taken down per request of Fox. It was a line from Fight Club. Pretty silly, if you ask me :\

Re: A question for all you geek crafters...

I've been contacted by several different companies. Some are nicer about it than others but all are in their legal right to ask/threaten/deter.
Lego rocks like you wouldn't believe.

Most just really do not want their name used. For example, a certain cereal brand (that begins with a K) do not want their name used but are all right with a generic title like 'Fruity Circles Breakfast Cereal Notebook". Others, like a certain chocolate company beginning with H, said no no no. Politely of course... well, kind of.. if you consider a letter signed by several lawyers and a representation list that included at least 4 former Prime Minister's of Canada.

Lego just wants the disclaimer at the end of every listing and that their name not be used as a noun, just an adjective.

Honestly, your best bet is to sell them as recycled/upcycled comic book "things" (replace things with what they are of course) and don't use the comic book or character in the listing title or tags.

If they contact you, you have no choice but to submit to their request... be it re-wording, unlisting, or whatever.

So sorry :(
