Any performing mask makers?

I am a big Commedia Dell'Arte fan, as well as Greek Mask, Basil, Character, ETC. I have been studying various forms for a few years now and love to discuss ideas, classic vs. contemporary, etc. If you do too, please post questions, suggestions, or points of discussion.

Do you think traditional forms are the way to go or are you more of a contemporary artist?

Do you perform? If so, I'd love to hear more!

Re: Any performing mask makers?

have you been studying mask creation, or mask performance. I'm a little confused as I know historically many of the Commedia actors of old made the masks they wore.

But I've done a little bit of performing in masks/fx makeup in the past and really enjoyed it. The bulk of my experience came though from hot foam prosthetic work- lots of fun but a little different then your traditional mask.

Both! I make and perform. How do you like prosthetic work? Is it molding exactly to someone's body- as in creating a prosthetic for someone with an amputation, or creating a prosthetic from your own mind- more fantasy/horror?

Also, just realized auto correct in my original post- it is not Basil, but Basel... as in Switzerland...

Re: Any performing mask makers?

My prosthetic work is more in the fantasy horror relm. I think Medical work would be a wonderful thing to do - but that is several medical degree's away from what I do. Lately mostly what I've been doing is dental prosthetics. I have a pair of full uppers and lowers that I can bite into a watermelon like it was an apple with. And there isn't much of a lisp at all when talking with them.

I really love doing prosthetic work when I can- both for myself and others. It's a blast to see your work come to life. Mostly I've worked in the horror end of the spectrum- because in areas outside of NYC and the Hollywood neck there isn't a lot of desire for it outside of horror. So October and Haunt season are crazy busy for me.

*laughs* I was wondering about a spice.
