Spam message?

Jump to solution

I have received a couple of suspicious messages to my shop lately just wondering if anyone else has seen anything like this below?

[This content has been removed by Moderation.]

I am marking it as spam and also reporting the sender but just wanted to give others a heads up. It has happened about 3 times lately. The most recent one came from another "etsy shop" that was just opened and they are selling Dr Suess clip-art which should be an infringement.

What BS: "It is important for me to obtain further information about the your store or to resolve this situation". Definitely spam.

Good that you spammed and reported it.

Who does this Brian think he is to ask you for clarification??

The line that got me was ''Combating internet fraud and protecting others is of utmost importance.''  How nice of him to look out for others!

Super annoying! This is the shop that the message came from:

[REMOVED]  hopefully etsy will shut the shop down.

@themilkandcreamco He has a shop?  I assumed it was just some random guy.  You should remove the shop link, since it's against the rules to call anybody out.  But yeah, the shop is full of infringement.

@bradgoodell That list gets longer every day now.

Wow, that is a new one.  Adding to my list.

  1. New seller
  2. High dollar item or large sale amount
  3. Odd or awkward-sounding language
  4. They want to take the conversation off Etsy (they ask for your email)
  5. Someone messages you and claims you may have been a victim of fraud, and requests your email address to "resolve the issue"
  6. You go back to their account, and it's gone
  7. They send you a link of some sort.  DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK
  8. They claim they cannot check-out and need your email to complete the order.
  9. They claim your Etsy checkout isn't working, and they send you a link to "fix it”
  10. You get an email from (FAKE) Etsy saying you need to do X to get your account verified.
  11. You get a (FAKE) email from Etsy claim you need to buy a high dollar pre-paid Visa or American Express card to get your Etsy account working
  12.  They send you a link to a (FAKE) Etsy page that looks genuine and asks for your login and/or credit card details.
  13. You find a (FAKE) Etsy phone number off the net and talk to a sympathetic customer service rep that wants you to download an app so they can access your account to fix something.  Etsy does not have a published phone number you can call.  It's a scam, the number is not Etsy's.
  14. They want to take the sale off Etsy
  15. They ask if something is "still available" when it's obviously for sale in your shop
  16. They ask about the condition of an obviously new item
  17. They ask if you are honest
  18. There is some urgency, such as a birthday or anniversary
  19. They claim they are in the Navy, an oceanographer, on a cruise ship, on a research vessel in Antartica
  20. They ask you to buy a high dollar gift card and include it in the order
  21. They will pay you extra for the inconvenience
  22. They claim to have their own shipping company or pick-up agent
  23. They claim an uncle is paying
  24. They want to pay by money order or Cashier's check
  25. They send you payment for far more than the order total
  26. They want you to send the overage through Western Union, Venmo, etc.
  27. They send you a (fake) PayPal email that says PayPal will release the payment after you send them the overage.

But, but aren't we the ones who are suppose to answer Q's for others on the forums?  Might have missed that update.
