I’m in the us and I had someone message me that they were trying to buy my product but at the purchasing point the system asked them for my email address buyer is in the UK is this normal? I then receive two emails one from [removed] saying someone purchased my item and they updated they payment system today so please follow the link sent in another email to confirm the order- but the other email with the link I have to press is an iCloud email. Is this normal?
SCAM..a buyer does not need your Email and they GET it when the payment is processed. Etsy HAS your email. There is NO reason a customer would need your email to complete a sale.
ALWAYS check any email "asks" at the source before clicking any links.
Just to clarify I am not a new seller- this is just a new shop I’ve opened and I’ve never sold to the UK so I wasn’t sure what the process was
Seems another new seller got this same scam email.
Solved: Re: First Order - Welcome to the Etsy Community
ETA: I wonder how many "new" sellers get scammed by this that never post of the forums?
Probably quite a few, IMO.
I've been posting about this DAILY!! The scammers have doubled-down, gotten more sophisticated, and new Etsy sellers are so excited for their first sale their sense of self-preservation just goes out the window.
can you please help with this.
if it is a scammer sending messages...
the account needs to be closed.
and who has the op been speaking to on the phone.
So glad you tagged him.
Hello,
Our team has taken action.
Thank you all for flagging!
Thank you @HerrMoostache
@BeeandPender A REAL Etsy admin is on it now.
@BeeandPender But you look like a new shop to a scammer. And you don't disclose any other shops in your Public Profile, which is required (so you should do that), so no one looking at your shop would know you are not new.
No it's a scam I had the same thing recently. Check the cream etsy adress.
I had the same just now. "She" showed me pictures from the "supposed" Etsy App...
@SimplyInvitingLLC Hi, I saw your pinned response re: "maildotetsydotcom". But this is a legitimate email. Also, I've received emails from Etsy where the Sender shows that address. I don't click any links within the emails though.
In this Announcement Thread, Admin Apersay mentions this addy ("maildotetsydotcom"). However, I thought I saw another Thread where it was posted that this is not a legit address. This can be confusing.

I just received an almost identical email. It reads, "Hеllo, I would like to order through etsy but thеy аsk for your еmaiI when ordering, can yоu give mе your еmaiI sо I can pаy dirеctly through etsy.

How do I report this, I checked the profile of this person, I didn't see a way to report a potential scammer.
I got this today, definitely pfishing. Sucks, don't engage with them...
I've had three of these. First one was from the 'buyer's' email and had a profile pic and everything. I just replied that they don't need my email address, said how they could pay for the item, and if there were further issues I would get in touch with Etsy. They weren't pretending to be from Etsy. Of course I didn't hear back.
After the second one I looked at the forum here and saw it was a scam. I was worried that if I didn't reply then is would skew my 'response to customers' rate.
@24HourApparel If you think it's not legit, mark it as spam.
The initial messages seldom pretend to be from Etsy. They want your email address first. Then you get the fake-Etsy email.
@24HourApparel - these messages are spam. mark them as spam and your star seller status will not be affected.
Does anyone know where to send a message to Etsy about this? I just get routed around on the options on the contact Etsy... But I want to send them an email and link the mail I got etcetera... Thanks.
Like I didn't sell anything so I don't have an open order which Etsy asks for.
@AuntyMsknitting Just mark it as Spam. At this point, reporting it is moot.
.@bradgoodell thank you and that kind of sucks... Wanted other shops to be warned.
I have received multiple messages from different people asking for my email. As I am new to Etsy and haven't made any sales yet, I'm not too sure whether it's a 'me' problem where I might have made some wrong checkout settings. This new message has a screenshot too where they have 3 steps to place an order and on the 2nd step, it asks to add the seller's email to go to the payment page.
@LutzzStudio You did nothing wrong in your settings - Etsy will never ask for the seller's email address - they already have it.
Mark the messages as "spam". Do not send them your e-mail address, and if you have, do not click on any links, and do NOT provide them with your banking or credit card information.
The scammers are especially targeting new shops with no or few sales. Beware. All payments on Etsy take place through Etsy - you do not have to provide any additional information off the Etsy site. All sales will appear on your dashboard.
I just had a similar exchange. The email said "Hello, do you still sell this product? I tried to make a purchase but was asked to enter your email address. I tried to make a purchase again, but the field where I must enter your email address cannot be skipped. Please let me know your email address so I can make a purchase!"
I said that was weird, and then they sent me a screenshot of what "appeared" to be an Etsy message. And the screenshot said "Enter the seller's email address so the he can receive a link to receive payment and instructions on how to proceed". (I'd upload an image but can't see where to do it).
I like how the message refers to "He" lol. Anyway, just thought I'd drop my info here so anyone else searching for it can find this info (August 2023)
I just had the same thing happen...buyer saying they need my mailing address to complete sail. Do not provide.
