Anybody getting involved in the make an offer test offered to vintage sellers?
No, thankfully it hasn't been offered to me...
I hate the idea, it's one of the reasons I sell on Etsy. I don't want low ball offers.
No No No No.....Please don't turn this into Ebay.
Same here, my prices are already priced fairly and in some cases the post office and (Etsy fees) make more money than I do. But it seems since 2012 Etsy has come up with ways to entice their vintage sellers to give their items away.
I believe so, it's on my Dashboard in a giant orange rectangle.
The Seller Handbook article offers a survey for feedback. It is fairly short if you aren't in the test, longer if you are. The first page allows for comments, however, so you can speak your mind.
Does anyone have a screenshot of how the offer page looks, so we can see options and how it is set up?
I've been offered the test...won't do it. No way. Etsy AGAIN does not allow us to choose the discount we would accept. It starts at 20% off and goes UP from there! Can't do it even if I wanted to join in. What is wrong with Etsy that they think after all our costs we can do that. Etsy Staff...give us the option to CHOOSE 5% or 10%...or fill in the blank percent.
Thank you for the link, @dayspringcollectible ! I filled out the survey with the same response I gave to the Etsy message inviting me to help test:
UGGGG. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is an AWFUL idea!!! I will definitely NOT be using this. I already get enough people making offers. If I were to turn this on, I it would be like advertising, "You would be a fool to not offer me less." This is very upsetting! I get that it's "optional" but once people start seeing other shops use it, I have no doubt that expectations will be set and I will start getting bombarded with requests for discounts. Why do you guys continue to try to cheapen this site? I just don't get it. BAD IDEA!!!!
Oh great!! Now Im gonna have to deal with multiple requests for discounts. No way! This is not a garage sale or a fire sale venue!!! NO ! NO!
I was invited, but I am not turning this on for a couple of reason:
- I sell high-end and very unique vintage items. Haggling is not aligned with my store approach and brand. If I miss sales because items are perceived as mis-priced, so be it. I would rather preserver my margins and brand.
- From a feature perspective, seller need more transparency re. the source of potential buyer: If the buyer comes from offsite advertising, paying a 12% ad fee would influence greatly wether or not I would accept an offer.
@AmoreTreasure
Yes, that is what I thought...
Some people will want in, then it will be like the Free Shipping.....if you do not offer it, you will look bad.
I have the test option, have not answered yet, I do not even have that much Vintage, but I price my listings for what I want for it, if it doesn't sell, I lower the price.
Why in the world would Etsy purposely open this can of worms?
@HouseofWhisperingFir - Because the current leadership does not have a shred of respect for what Etsy was meant to be.
Because they think the site is really Ebay.
Why? Because when this topic has been discussed, the vast majority of vintage sellers have said "He-- no!" And that seems to be the surest way to get Etsy to implement another half-witted idea.
Because they enjoy seeing this site sitting on a permanent slippery slope to maximum mediocrity.
Terrible idea!!! Desperate much?!
Desperation?
Well @HouseofWhisperingFir since the current leader was previously on Ebay, I'm surprised he didn't push for something like this here sooner since he seems to be copying so much from Ebay instead of creating a unique vision for Etsy.
The present leader of Etsy came from eBay so what can you expect? This isn't eBay (yet).
Because they're not the ones that will be losing money
Its only for US shops and I am in Canada...but it is a feature that I would be happy to have....On vintage items I have a fair bit of flexibility as it comes to price...I would not want it on handmade tho...
