I just received a reply message from a buyer when this popped up:
Official messages that Etsy sends will show up in the "From Etsy" section. If you get a message that's not in this section from someone claiming to be Etsy, make sure to look for an authentic Etsy badge or "Etsy Staff" label before responding.
If you go to messages and look at the left, there is an actual "From Etsy" message section. The part about Etsy badge and Etsy staff is kinda vague, but I'm glad Etsy has taken another step and added a formal "From Etsy" section.
Thoughts?
For anyone wondering, this is what it looks like.
If you don't see it in your messages dashboard, this means the update hasn't rolled in yet.
Thank you for sharing this!

This is great! Thank you.
Thank you so much for posting this. Quite appreciated.
That's a great idea!
You beat me to it. Was going to post about it too.
It might help a bit with all the peeps who don't see the warning re scams. Or it might not.
@leinweberstudio In reality, a scammer could start a message by saying "I'm from the IRS and planning to empty our your bank account, can you give me your login?" and there would be that one person who would do.
Yes, I had more to say there, but I bit my tongue.
thank goodness!
plus.
i do have a real message from etsy.
and when you hover over where it says *etsy staff*
a little pop up appears and says:
* this person works at etsy *
and you cannot fake those things.
@nineteen27 Now this is good.
I think this is great, hopefully keeps the scammers away, thanks for sharing.
Only until they think of the next newest scam....: (
Ok, now can someone please take a screenshot of that (like nineteen27 did showing the new tabs in our shopfront in the forum change post), circle the part in the messages where we can direct people to look for legit messages, and share a link that we can save and share with people that missed the pop-up (because just like the 'got it', I'm sure people will click 'ok' to bypass it without actually reading it, so it'll be handy to just direct them right where to look).
Ok, what HerrMoostache posted while I was typing.... that. I guess we can just share this post and direct them to look for that image?
@audreytherese There is a screenshot posted above now.
Ya, it wasn't there when I was typing.... and of course I/we can't edit anything anymore.
@audreytherese I just edited a Forum Post.
And this morning we couldn't.
I can't keep up.
@audreytherese there is also an orange badge on messages now, that says "From Etsy" - I have posted that to all of my social media today.
Finally, a great idea! Thank you Etsy (and I don't say that very often).
You can edit your own posts for an hour after you post. After that, it's too late.
I know how it's supposed to work.
This morning you couldn't do that.
It appears they have retracted all the changes they tried implementing, as it's back to normal now.
But it wasn't this morning.
Here was a whole post about these changes, where people clearly noted how they couldn't edit their comments at the time (I wasn't going crazy when I couldn't edit my response):
https://community.etsy.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Forum-Change-No-Edit-on-Posts/m-p/143721773#M810436
The post died down because as I stated, they appear to have recalled the changes they had originally implemented.
Going forward, this will be a good thing. If it works as planned.
Right now, my new section only shows two past messages from Etsy - one of them from last year doesn't have the Orange icon with the E - but was definitely legit. There are several others with the proper icon that aren't in my new section. Oh well - it'll be great, if it works!
