Am I the only one bothered by this?

When I go to my page and someone 'liked' my page, tells me that they 'liked' my page and then tells me to go to their page and do the same. Is that really necessary? When someone likes my page, I automatically go to their page and like them back. BUT, do not tell me on my facebook page that I HAVE to like you back. It's very unprofessional and when I see that on my page, and even on others pages, that's a huge turnoff for me.
Am I just cranky today or is this bugging anyone else?

I changed in my settings that it only shows my pages post on my wall due to this. I consider that spamming. If you're a fan and want my attention, write "Hey I'm your newest fan! I LOVE the things you make!" I will squee with joy at the compliment and reciprocate nice things for you.

Re: Am I the only one bothered by this?

Maybe you could write- "from an etsy team member or mmff." People might not get as annoyed. I don't mind being liked and having someone tell me to visit their fb page and like them. I usually will look at someone else's page if they look at mine, leave a message, or like my page. I usually like them back. We all need a little love!!

Re: Am I the only one bothered by this?

Yes, I don't mind if people write that they found me via the MMFF team or whatever. I just can't stand it when someone tells me on my wall that I have to like them back. That's just really annoying
I have it set so people land on my wall seeing my posts only, but they do have the option to see others posts. It looks really unprofessional to have stuff like this on a wall.

Re: Am I the only one bothered by this?

I am newer to fb and I didn't know you could set you wall so that they only see your posts and an option to see others. I will have to look on my page and figure out how to do it. Thanks for the info!!

Re: Am I the only one bothered by this?

photographybymoni, I actually didn't know I was being rude by asking for likes & now that you commented, I will be more polite. Maybe some of the folks who are doing it are like me & don't know the protocol. Now I'm saying, I'm your newest fan. Another Etsian, Brienna, said if you put @ before your (business pg) name it appears in your comment as a link to your page. A subtle way to ask for a return like.

Re: Am I the only one bothered by this?

It doesn't bother me. Actually I've been thinking about doing it myself. I've fanned over 50 pages (no exaggeration) and have only gotten 7 'likes' myself.

I need a pity 'like'! haha :)

Re: Am I the only one bothered by this?

It doesn't bother me either. I actually kind of like it because I'm glad to return the favour and then I know where to find them.

Re: Am I the only one bothered by this?

I agree that the wording of the post can be a little off-putting. I don't mind when someone posts to tell me they liked me (because sometimes I miss it otherwise, espeically if I see a personal like and can't figure out what shop they're connected to) but it does seem a bit rude to simply say "I liked you, like me back!"

WillowRose, I liked you just now from my personal account as I think you got me recently :-)

Re: Am I the only one bothered by this?

I think it should be a bit of a given to go and "like" the other persons page, HOWEVER, it is also important to visit the other person's shop and page first, approve of it and then "like" it.
Does it count if we all just mindlessly "like" everything without giving feedback or using discretion when necessary?

Re: Am I the only one bothered by this?

I look at the photos on everyone's page and leave a comment about a particular piece that I love, wish them the best of luck and sign it with aphotica.

The first few that I did, I kinda did what they were doing and asked them to stop by my page too. But I stopped doing that a while ago. *Apologies to anyone whom I "liked" early on :(

Re: Am I the only one bothered by this?

You have to like pages from your personal account for it to count toward number of fans, so I actually prefer it when people post their link on my wall (using their personal account). Otherwise I have no idea who anyone is!

I like to return the favor but I can't if I don't know their shop and there's not really an easy way to find it (you can search for their name on Etsy and if they have a shop, see if they include a FB link, but that's time-consuming). If I see personal likes without wall posts, I assume they either don't have a business page or don't care if I like them back.

I can see how telling someone they HAVE to like you back is annoying. I usually post with my business page saying hi, where I found them, and what my name is, so they can connect me to my personal account. It's less spammy than posting a link, but I don't mind if people do that for me. I mainly do it my way just because I prefer to follow and interact with fan pages from my fan page only (I hide fan pages in my personal feed so it doesn't get too cluttered).

As for it looking unprofessional to have all those links on your wall, it doesn't bother me. I figure it's free advertising for those people to anyone else who visits my page.

Re: Am I the only one bothered by this?

I totally agree. Real fans should not discover we are liking each other's shop just for liking. This method is so cynical but well, let's admit it, also usefull to increase visits and sales.
Let's just like others page and like back. No saying, no asking!
Thank you all for your support, and good luck!

Re: Am I the only one bothered by this?

I am new to this team. I agree with the sentiment that It is unprofessional and off-putting for someone state on my Facebook page that they like me and I should like them back, or when they post a link to their page on my wall. That is spamming. I have tried to like as many as I can, but am not comfortable clicking like on pages I don't actually like. Most other pages do come in as hidden, and that does make a difference to me.

Re: Am I the only one bothered by this?

I am brand new here but have liked lots of pages for my other teams. I try and say Hi to people and that I like their shop and that I am from so and so team and my business name. Otherwise like some of you have said my personal name does not tell them what shop I am from and if we want the likes to count on their fb page then you have to like it from your personal one. I would totally agree that I would never say you have to now like my page. I think that is not nice.

Re: Am I the only one bothered by this?

It doesn't bother me if they asked me to like them back, I'm just doing them a favor like everyone else in here. I didn't know I was being rude by asking to like me back, I liked a lot of pages but some never liked back. I'll try to be not rude next time, since you pointed that out. Lesson learn, right?!

Re: Am I the only one bothered by this?

I know. i always like someone back when they like my page, to return the love but understand why some people dont do it and therefore the need to say it out load. personally i dont like to say ' please like me back', so i just put a tag of my name so they can easily go to my page. therefore @ then your name. it appears as a link and not in your face.

Re: Am I the only one bothered by this?

question: If you LIKE someones page, then isn't all their activity on your activity feed? I like to check that out and see whats going on but I could never keep up with hundreds of pages..
Also- if i really don't care for someone's product- (just not my taste although lovely) should i feel obligated to like them back?
thanks for any help!
