The Blog

In an attempt to be organised and use my website blog to promote not just my business but also other small local businesses I have started with Charlotte. All feed back is welcome as blogs aren't my strong point, and for it to work for us all, it needs to work....if that makes any sense!
I also posted the link on the Janners Mugs Facebook page so here's hoping that Charlotte gets some extra views and sales.

Re: The Blog

Thanks for sharing Janners.
It's great you are supporting Devon makers in this way!

I'm not a bloggy person, so have no tips or suggestions for you.
Other than I hope that those that you have blogged so far appreciate it and are tweeting, facebooking or spreading by other means the link to their blog piece.

I see that there are links to their shops from your blog. I believe that all the links back and forward you can get across the net would help their shops as well as your blog. Something to do with SEO that you could probably explain better than me...

Meanwhile...... I bet there are other bloggers in the team. Why not share a link to your blog here too. Then you can all start sharing and following each other.

Any experienced bloggers here? Do you have any top-tips you could share with the team???

Re: The Blog

I gave up my blog as it took too much time HOWEVER it was a great tool for getting my work out there at the beginning. Not sure if things have changed much but I found the best way to promote my website/blog was to comment on others peoples with similar interests.

Now I use Tumblr and automatically update when I post to instagram, which also posts to my facebook page too. I use my mobile phone and nexus. this saves lots of time and means that I have something out there every day.

Good luck Janners

Re: The Blog

..Don't know if it counts as a blog or not if my News page on website doesn't allow comments... but...

Have just written what will be a series of "blog posts" on my website about working towards an exhibition in September.
http://lynnbailey.co.uk/exhibitions/urban-bees-working-together-1

As it's not interactive, I just do my best to promote via FB and Twitter.

Should I take the plunge and blog 'properly' when I write so irregularly?
Comments welcome...

Re: The Blog

Whether anyone is interested or not, I did the 3rd post for Urban Bees a while ago about the textile artist I commissioned to take part in the exhibition http://lynnbailey.co.uk/print/urban-bees-working-together-3

And the 4th news post (about the jeweller) a couple of days ago http://lynnbailey.co.uk/print/urban-bees-working-together-4

I've still got the photographer I commissioned to write about as well as myself.

Though I have added some insights into my working practice on the "work in progress" page http://lynnbailey.co.uk/artwork/work-in-progress

.... I don't think of myself as a blogger - are there any people here who blog regularly?

Re: The Blog

I have a blog: www.mazedasastoat.blogspot.com but I don't update it as often as I should. I tried to make sure it was about more than just promotion for my Etsy shop. It's a fine line between being friendly & open, & putting your whole life up there for all to see. Also, I don't want to be identified by what I put online, so my exact home location, my "real" business, even my pets, aren't featured. To be honest, once within the space of a couple of weeks I got about 3 emails saying "I love reading all about you" & it kinda made me feel slightly stalked, so I'm nowhere near as enthusiastic about it as I once was. It makes me sound a bit paranoid or reclusive, but there's a difference between "private" & "secret", & I like my life to be private. I had enough of communal living at boarding school, which I hated with a deep & abiding hate. :-) It's a handy place to put info though, & by having somewhere to refer people to it saves me having to type stuff out every time for FAQs.

Re: The Blog

Never sure if the News page on my website qualifies as a blog or not --- but here’s my latest postings anyway –
Lovely to see Australian school children inspired by my artwork http://lynnbailey.co.uk/printmaki…/a-surprise-from-australia

So chuffed :-D

Any team members keeping a blog going?
Does it help your Etsy shop?
Share your thoughts.....

Cheers

Re: The Blog

I used to have a blog running about anything trade related that popped into my head. I've also guest written on a couple of others. I've just started one on my website and I am going to be strict with myself and commit to at least one post a month. As always, time is the thing. If it's a general posting, I might save it for when things are a bit dry.

Google listings seem to rank the amount of words highly. More words, more active website/blog, more traffic sent that way.

Janners: I read the post and felt it needed a little more content. Also (I know it's hard), to sell a product successfully, you need to deconstruct the rival rather than insult it. This builds credibility meaning visitors to the blog are more likely to read rather than scan and dismiss.

I was kindly offered a couple of features on other people's blogs, but sadly haven't had the time yet. I am going to write out a plan and stick to it next year ( maybe).

I am going to try and feature a couple of members of the team on my blog from time to time, so be prepared for a pestering email of questions!

Best wishes,
D

Re: The Blog

I started a blog once a few years ago when I first started selling bags on Etsy but ended up staring at a blank screen for hours. Even though I wrote nothing I still got followers! strange.

I may start again but I've got so much going on at the moment that it won't be until the new year. As Damien said it's a time thing, but I will check into all your blogs as often as I can.
