New shop look, are you ready?

I was a bit freaked out when I first heard about the new shop look. There are things I really don't like, such as the 'updates' and 'about' and 'reviews' all being on the same page. I think they should be separate, too much scrolling. On the plus side, I love the bigger header and I've tried to use it as an opportunity to 'revamp' for spring with a new photo and logo.

What do you think? Are you ready for the changes?
Here's mine, why don't we post sneak previews of our new shop look?

Yours looks brilliant - very fresh and inviting.

I've just started playing with mine. I need a better photo I think so will have to get going on that - it's too brown! But all my other images seemed too big and close up.

I don't like the new shop look at the moment but I guess I'll get used to it! Like you I feel there's too much scrolling.

Yours looks lovely Victoria, it really does. I think we spend so long agonising about it we stop seeing it in the end. Are you finding your round logo still has a square around it at the top of the page and on your current home page? I can't work out how to get rid of the box! I didn't think it should even have changed in our shops until 5th April.

Re: New shop look, are you ready?

I don't mind the new style, this is mine https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/PerfectlyGlass/neu

I think I prefer if without the banner (my old one is not too great). We are always reluctant to have change but I'm sure it will be fine.

More important for me is to keep my shop stocked, no matter what it looks like :) !

Re: New shop look, are you ready?

Good attitude Carol! I've heard so many people say they're quitting Etsy because of the changes, and I just don't understand why? It seems to me that although there are some changes that are just automatic, you don't really have to make many changes yourself if you don't want to.

I really like your logo btw, it works really well. I had a sneaky peak at your sold items and there's a lovely photo of glass stars, maybe if in the future you wanted a banner you might be able to use that photo as well if it's big enough.

Liking your banners Lorraine, Victoria.
Carol your shop also looks great with just the logo. I can't decide whether to have a banner or not. I've removed featured items because I also feel there is too much scrolling.

Re: New shop look, are you ready?

Thanks Annabel,
I like yours with the banner, I think the banner gives impact. I never thought about removing the featured items but I might take a look at that!

Re: New shop look, are you ready?

Well done everyone for getting your new look started.

I have just been spending an painful hour rearranging all my items to suit the 3 abreast look. From the start of my shop I have been arranging items in sets of 4.

Agree with those that have said it's too much scrolling down. Looks like a cheap blog-roll.
I feel forced into using my avatar as a logo and replace my avatar with a mug shot...

Have also tried out my 1st Etsy update using the Sell on Etsy app. Unfortunately my photo didn’t come out as well as expected and I noticed auto correct had created an error for me (ie, it should be Cirl Bunting not Curl Bunting)

Also think I need to re think the photos I choose for the featured listings.

Re: New shop look, are you ready?

Hi Lynn, just had a look at your new look shop (love you stuff by the way!). On my screen (apple mac) your banner chops off the Ly of the Lynn.....may be ok on a wider screen.

As Annabel suggested I removed the featured listings which lessens the scrolling slightly. When I have sorted my stock I will use the top row as 'featured' (possibly).

Re: New shop look, are you ready?

Hi Lynn,
Lovely banner but it does the same on my screen, chops part of your name off.

Re: New shop look, are you ready?

Ah yes, thanks for pointing that out. Trying out another banner.
And will probably do away with the featured listings too....

Cheers

Re: New shop look, are you ready?

I don't like the new layout. There's too much blank space that could be used for showcasing. If I'm looking at someone's page/shop, I choose whether to view reviews, time on Etsy etc. I think it takes away from the point. A retail shop window doesn't tend to have posters of reviews and surplus info everywhere. An etsy shop is our shop window.

I'll get used to it I'm sure, but I'm not sure what was behind the changes. If it was to keep up with the mobile trend, I don't see it making a difference.

Anyway, I think I've got DamianMilesJeweller sorted, although I think I will need to do a new banner. I just have to work on Fuelyourcraft now.

Good job so far everyone.

Re: New shop look, are you ready?

I think they are all looking good. Lynn, your banner works on my computer so maybe you've fixed it now. I think I'll keep the featured items for a little while and see how I feel - I've just noticed that when one of the featured items sells you can queue up other listings to replace it so it will change as you make sales.

Has anyone looked into trying this new Easy website builder yet?

Re: New shop look, are you ready?

I think I must be too easy going because any changes Etsy make really never bother me! I have no strong feelings either way for the new layout. I just go with the flow. I havn't yet got round to changing my banner or even seeing how the other changes work, but I do love everyone elses. I actually think they look better.

As for the ne Etsy website thingy - Pattern - there is a very good thread on the forums about how it's only a sub-domain. Worth reading. I for one will not be bothering with it.

New shops all looking good!
I don't understand the Etsy pattern, isn't it just like repeating your Etsy shop? What's the difference?

Re: New shop look, are you ready?

I'm not sure about the advantages of Etsy Pattern except you use your own domain name. I'll be sticking with my current website, which is cheaper too.

Re: New shop look, are you ready?

Yes Pattern seems to be a web hosting company this may be integrated to Etsy (quite how much control you have I am not sure).

I didn't notice if you can use an existing domain name or use one supplied by a domain name registrar either.

Will stick to my existing set up too ;)

Best

Re: New shop look, are you ready?

I'm actually wondering wether to give the pattern a go now. My website, although it looks good, doesn't actually function that well in that it's really hard to update (so I haven't updated it in ages) and it's hard for customers to order. Although this pattern doesn't look so good, it is actually easy for customers to use which is more important so I'm now doing a complete turnaround and might give it ago!
