Mobile card readers.

Has anyone used or is using a mobile card reader ? I was looking around to see if there are any good deals and how people have found using them ... Are they costly or worth investing in !??

Hi I use an iZettle which is free for the reader itself. Obviously it depends on wifi/4g signal at the event which is worth checking beforehand. I wouldn't be without it now as many people spend more if you have a card reader or make impulsive buys!

Hi, I have a PayPal reader. Again use needs WiFi, 3 or 4 G. Other than doing a practice transaction I have yet to use it in 'real life'. It was very simple to use. It was about £40 to buy.

I also have Paypal reader as I have a 'bricks & mortar' shop for a different business. It uses wifi and so far has been straightforward to use. It cost around £50 for the reader which was a one-off and then I think transactions are 2.75% which is bearable. You need to download the app to your device but it also gives you the option to take card payments if the customer isn't present.

Re: Mobile card readers.

Sorry, really late getting in on this one. I've never used one before, but have just got an Izettle. The reader is free, but you pay a higher transaction fee (currently as much as 2.75%). Most other readers have a lower charge, but cost money to buy (PayPal £40, Sum Up £70 etc.)

My main motivation for the izettle was the free reader. The 1% difference in charges between it and the Sum Up would take a while to make a difference (£7000 sales to recoup the cost) and at this stage every penny outlaid counts.

The izettle has some good analytics when you log in online and allows you to record cash sales through their App. Also it lets you take American Express, which some other don't (not that many use it).

Since getting it, I haven't been asked if I take cards (which is just typical), but it's nice to have the option.

Best wishes,
Damian
