The Made in Devon team is a little over a year old and is still evolving...

So whether you are brand new or have been a team member a while, do pop in, say hello and tell us what it is that you do. What is it about being creative in Devon that is important to you? What would you like from this team?

This team can evolve into whatever matters to you! If you don’t see a discussion you would like to engage in – why not start one yourself! Ask questions, offer advice, get something off your chest – get involved and see what happens....

To get the ball rolling – I am Lynn, a printmaker in Exeter and part of Double Elephant Print Workshop. Mt Etsy shop is coming up to 3 years old in July. I’m pretty pleased with how it’s going – but I had v modest aims of selling one print a month, & v happy to have exceeded that. It was partly the colour of Devon soil that encouraged me to move into the area – but that’s a longer story.....

I’ve noticed this comment in the origin “welcome” thread from Ren from Fairysteps and think it would be a good idea to reiterate it here -

“For all members...

If you click on the 'Subscribe to digest' link on the left hand side menu of this page, you will receive all updates that happen within the Made in Devon team!

A great way to make sure you don't miss anything!”

BIG FAT DEVON WELCOME TO ALL.

Re: Introduce yourself & say Hello!

Hi Everyone! So pleased to be part of this team :) I'm Jess and I moved back to Devon after 16 years as a graphic designer in London. I bought my house 2 years ago in Exmouth and have since converted the dining room into my lovely bright studio where I create, design and get happy!

I reopened my Etsy shop a few weeks ago with a collection of my linocut prints and some handpainted canvases. Hoping to drum up sales and make this shop a success.

Looking forward to being part of this team and getting involved in any events happening in the future here in lovely Devon!

Jess xx

Re: Introduce yourself & say Hello!

Hi Team Devon!

I just opened my Etsy shop a couple of weeks ago, so I'm brand new and have so much to learn. I'm a self-taught jewellery designer/maker and I'm really keen to make a success of things! It would be really great to connect with other makers locally so I'm looking forward to participating in this team :)

Re: Introduce yourself & say Hello!

Hi, I joined about a month ago, thought I had already introduced myself but can't find post now, so maybe not. Quite new to this, so steep learning curve. Self taught jewellery maker with eclectic style, beads, gemstones, concrete, mixed media resin.. Currently make most of my jewellery in my physical shop/gallery in East Devon. Dabble in mixed media artwork at home too. Have yet to make my first sale. Any hints/tips appreciated.

Hi Gabi - welcome ;)

Posting on Etsy helps, post here and in the forums to promote! It does sometimes take a while for the first sale but hang in there and keep up the promotions ;)

Re: Introduce yourself & say Hello!

Hi!
I am Ruth and live in Appledore, North Devon. My partner and I started our shop last year but have taken a while to get to grips with Etsy so are having an overhaul this month. We wanted to turn rubbish into treasure, help others to live more sustainably and bring real wood back into peoples homes. We have 4 children and this is both of our full time jobs. Our biggest selling platform is ebay but we are taking steps to make Etsy our main selling outlet now as we prefer the atmosphere and feel the aesthetic fits our business better.
We would love feedback on our shop if anyone has any time and are hoping to get it up to speed in the coming weeks, it is a real work in progress!

Re: Introduce yourself & say Hello!

Hi Angie, welcome aboard ;)

Having a quick look at a couple of your listings - you only have UK as a post option. I would add Europe and 'everywhere else' - it maybe Etsy does not rank the shops as high in countries not listed!

Re: Introduce yourself & say Hello!

Hi Faye,
Welcome to the team - it's a bit quiet here at the moment so feel free to start new topics ;)

If you can expand a bit in the about you section of your shop and in your descriptions. Do you make the item or buy in and embroider for example... ;)

Re: Introduce yourself & say Hello!

Hi my names Laura. Myself and my partner who is a joiner by trade started last year making crafts and selling them in village craft fairs. We are trying again this year as we do a lot of Christmas ideas. Mostly gifts. Just signed up for Esty and wanted some advice really on how to get us out there. We both work full time and have a family (with one on the way) so are very busy but I am going to try and get the website and all social media up and running. Thank you in advance for anyone’s help!

Re: Introduce yourself & say Hello!

Hi all, I'm Rachael and I live on the edge of Dartmoor. I'm currently travelling and missing it so much! It's all the wild weather and old stories and ancient stones that I love so much.
I started my etsy shop ages ago but only really started taking it seriously a couple of months ago so I'm just experimenting and seeing how it goes.

I make and sell jewellery on here but I love so many processes and materials and tend to go through phases. Favourites at the moment are wood and leather but I also love founf objects such as seeds and feathers and also making natural dyes from hedgerow plants. I'm really gad to find a Devon corner on Etsy and it'll be lovely to have a look at what everyone's up to.

Look forward to meeting you all and seeing your creations!

Re: Introduce yourself & say Hello!

Hi there everyon, We're a husband and wife team that has been making pottery in Barnstaple for just over 20 years now. We're new to Etsy this year and very pleased with the results so far. We live in the centre of Barnstaple and the back yard of our house is the pottery. We just walk out of our back door into our workshops when there's work to be done.

We get all over Devon trading at craft markets, country shows and Christmas fairs and enjoy meeting up with regular and new stallholders when out and about. We're feel very fortunate that in Devon we have so many opportunities for creative people to sell their work.

Re: Introduce yourself & say Hello!

Morning all,
I'm Justine, owner of Jeco. Apart from attending University I have lived my whole life in Crediton and just love the southwest. I started Jeco last year after sewing clothes for my twin girls and getting positive feedback when selling a few items to help my husband raise money for FORCE Cancer Charity. I've since sourced some lovely organic and oeko-tex fabrics which I turn it to lovely baby and toddler clothes from my home.
