The Made in Devon team is a little over a year old and is still evolving...

So whether you are brand new or have been a team member a while, do pop in, say hello and tell us what it is that you do. What is it about being creative in Devon that is important to you? What would you like from this team?

This team can evolve into whatever matters to you! If you don’t see a discussion you would like to engage in – why not start one yourself! Ask questions, offer advice, get something off your chest – get involved and see what happens....

To get the ball rolling – I am Lynn, a printmaker in Exeter and part of Double Elephant Print Workshop. Mt Etsy shop is coming up to 3 years old in July. I’m pretty pleased with how it’s going – but I had v modest aims of selling one print a month, & v happy to have exceeded that. It was partly the colour of Devon soil that encouraged me to move into the area – but that’s a longer story.....

I’ve noticed this comment in the origin “welcome” thread from Ren from Fairysteps and think it would be a good idea to reiterate it here -

“For all members...

If you click on the 'Subscribe to digest' link on the left hand side menu of this page, you will receive all updates that happen within the Made in Devon team!

A great way to make sure you don't miss anything!”

BIG FAT DEVON WELCOME TO ALL.

Re: Introduce yourself & say Hello!

Hi everyone,

I'm Charlotte and I upended my etsy store at the end of September as an alternative to just selling on Facebook. I create a range of gifts, cards and keepsakes which are suitable for babies, children and adults.

I'm still very new to etsy and learning the ropes so am happy for any pointers telling me what I'm doing right and wrong.

I live in Newton Abbot and moved down to Devon just over 9 years ago from Milton Keynes and absolutely love it down here :)

My real dream would be to have my own craft related shop/workshop/cafe where people could socialise, make things and shop... But I'll need a lottery win for that to come true I think.
Xx

Re: Introduce yourself & say Hello!

Hello my fellow Devonshire Dumplings. I'm Andi & I knit. I grew up in Westward Ho! in North Devon but moved to Plymouth about 15 years ago. I now live just outside Plymouth in a little village called Newton Ferrers.

I opened my shop last year after a bad back made me have to rethink my craft, I used to make cards & wedding stationary but I found sitting at a desk aggravated my back problem. So picked up my knitting needles, blew the dust off them & opened Kwirky Knits. I miss the paper crafting but found i'm pretty good at designing new knitting patterns as well as knitting up some old faves. P.S. I tend to waffle on so I'll be quiet now lol

Re: Introduce yourself & say Hello!

Hi everyone,

I'm Tanya and I live in Exeter. I'm originally from Belfast in Northern Ireland and have been living in Devon with my husband for the past year and a half or so. We moved over for my husband to do his teacher training and have kinda fallen in love with the place! So it would be great to connect with other people who are making in the area.

I make fabric flowers. I am trying to get into doing wedding bouquets and decorations but my shop is mostly hair accessories, artworks and a few small arrangements at the moment. I'm only just starting and not really sure what I'm doing so it would be great to get some advice. :)

Re: Introduce yourself & say Hello!

Hi I'm Kaz, from Torquay. Opened my Etsy shop in September 2015 so very much a beginner. Absolutely love what Im doing now. Beats the pants off the stressy job I gave up not too long ago.

Was born in Torquay and have lived here all my life (over 50 years... not saying how many over 50!) No intention of moving away - ever!

Any advice always welcome although sometimes I can be a bit slow in acting on it... Us Devon folk can be a bit stuck in our ways.

Would love to hear from other members - maybe think about a craft fair - attending and / or organising one. Will happily favourite all who favourite any of my items or my shop.

Looking forward to hearing from / meeting others

Kaz x

Re: Introduce yourself & say Hello!

Photographer, digital artist, daydreamer and exhausted mother of 3 boys... I am into treehugging, art, music, walking on Dartmoor - and I'm a bit of a sci-fi geek! I live in Cheriton Bishop, a beautiful little village on the northern edge of Dartmoor National Park, England. Formerly a graphic designer & photo retoucher based at Ealing Film Studios in London, I now concentrate on my own art and photography. I find my inspiration in the stunning surroundings of the south west & Dartmoor. The majority of my work is based on nature, especially the play of light and colour on trees, water and foliage. My style is often bold, abstract and surreal. I manipulate my camera settings to deliberately exaggerate the light and colour levels, experimenting with overexposing and de-focusing. The images produced by my process are not repeatable, they are a 'one off' - a unique piece of art.

Hi I'm Danielle and I live right on the border on the north coast. I've been on Etsy for a few years now and try to sell cushions and bags from tea towels and vintage textiles.

Re: Introduce yourself & say Hello!

I'm so bad at this. I haven't checked this thread since just after I joined the team.

Hi to all the new members!
There are some nuggets of info to be gained in this team, especially the local stuff, like what's going on and where.

The members vary from people dealing in vintage to entirely handmade products and everything in between. Some have a hobby that has got a little out of control, others do a bit of something every now and again, right through to the full timers who rely on Etsy for an income.

This gives the group a great amount of diversity in opinions voiced in all of the discussions. Most teams on here seem to be aimed at a particular area (jewellery for instance), were sharing ideas is like giving information to the competition. A geographic group is different. Please do get involved as we will all get more from this team as a result.

Welcome and good luck!

Best wishes,
Damian

Hi,

I'm a Devon-based artist who uses the local landscape as inspiration.

I've been a buyer here for many years and I've recently opened an Etsy shop.
