I do use instagram in a fairly small way.
I started using it because my phone took better snaps with instergram than it's normal photograph function.
Having taken the instagram photo it's very easy to share onto twitter and facebook and Flickr too. (other sharing options also available).
You can add a bit of text, so I keep this short because of sharing it on twitter and use the @ and # things as well to get the message out there more.
Before I knew what I was doing I found that people started following me and that the # thingy works on intergram too, so I used that to help me connect with people interested in bees for example (I have a major bee project on at the moment).
I tend to use it more for work in progress rather than finished products so I haven't got to grips with how to use to drive potential customers to my Etsy shop. But I'm sure there is potential.
Like all social media type stuff, the more you interact with other people the more noticeable you are and the faster your following will grow.
Whether it is instergram, facebook, twitter pinterest or whatever, look out for fellow Made in Devon team mates and follow back. Do-as-you-would-be-done-by communities really do work better than shouting all on your own.
