2015 Captain Summit in Bristol

This is to give you all the heads-up that I have been allocated a space on the team captains Summit at Bristol (Fri27-Sun29 March!).

I haven’t received an agenda yet, so I am still rather in the dark regarding what it’s all about – but I am going to represent the team anyway!

At the very least it a networking opportunity and a chance to see how other teams are run. I suspect that there will be something about how to set up a Christmas pop up event for your team – but I’m not really sure about that. I will update you when I know more!

Meanwhile – I would appreciate your input. Is there anything you would like me to say to Etsy UK?
Do you have any questions you would like me to put forward?

Watch this space, because when I get an agenda, this might help you think of questions you would like to have asked. I just didn’t want to wait any longer before I told the team and give you a chance to have your say.

Hi Lynn,
Thanks for doing this for us - the feedback will be appreciated.

I would love to have quantity discounts made available - in my own web shop I offer a discount on the embossing stamps I make. I did add this to the recent survey I completed.

Re: 2015 Captain Summit in Bristol

I’m off to Bristol on Friday for the UK team leader’s summit. It’s a whole weekend thing (& I still don’t have an agenda)...
Thanks Dave for your suggestion - have taken a note.

I had a thought this morning as I woke up to find I have a sale to package & post.
6 out of 7 orders for me so far this year have been to the US. The 1 being to the UK. Previously I have had as many UK order as US orders. The lack of UK sales might be something I could bring up at the summit. But my own experience is a very small sample.
Can anyone else see a pattern happening? How do your UK sales compare to US sales? How about the rest of the world?

IF the UK is under represented in our statistics – what can Etsy UK do about this?

Please take a look at your stats and get back to me. My own stats might be an anomaly....

Cheers
Lynn

Re: 2015 Captain Summit in Bristol

Hi Lynn

Interesting as I'd not really looked at this.
My sales are mostly UK, making up 2/3rds with the remainder USA and one each for Europe, Australia. Although my sample is tiny!

Re: 2015 Captain Summit in Bristol

I have made 16 sales altogether over the last few years and 9 are from the UK, 4 from the US and 1 each from Norway and Spain.

I have made sales in the UK over the last few months, so although my sample is tiny I haven't noticed a change.

What I have noticed is a dramatic drop in views. January and Feb. were pretty good for me, but March has been very poor.

Good luck with the Captain's meeting Lynn

Re: 2015 Captain Summit in Bristol

I am up year on year for views and sales.
Figures for the Month of January
2013 - 260 views, 0 sales
2014 - 2463 views, 14 sales
2015 - 8322 views, 62 sales

All months show the same trend.

Last 12 months
USA 30,900 views, 326 sales
UK 12200 views, 323 sales.

Then sales from most of the globe.

March is currently down on February, but February was rather good with 78 orders.

Struggling now to get that next boost in, I need to review closely what sells, chop what doesn't, then add new......I see a lot of work ahead!

Hope that helps

Re: 2015 Captain Summit in Bristol

Mine is a bit strange due to the market I sell to here (mainly soap makers) so it's hard to say how many more makers there are abroad than here. EU changes saw a drop in making as well due to more red tape for sellers.

US still tops though but I have noticed more sales coming from Australia over the last few months.

Re: 2015 Captain Summit in Bristol

I've always sold the vast majority of item to the US, right from when I started 5 years ago. For the last 30 days I've sold 11 items to the US, 1 to France & 2 to Australia, which seems fairly average.

All very interesting - thanks.
Every story is different......

Any questions you would like me to raise? Anything you think Etsy and especially Etsy UK should do better....
?

Re: 2015 Captain Summit in Bristol

Have a read of this, I bet it won't make it to the "Etsy in the Press" page: motherboard.vice.com/read/from-etsy-to-sweatsy The author used to run a site called Regretsy as a hobby... if you've been around for long enough that will need no explanation, if you haven't it doesn't matter because it's been offline for some time now.

Re: 2015 Captain Summit in Bristol

Yes, I was aware of "Regretsy" - it was quite amusing at times. And I followed the recycled boats stuff with interest at the time. But much of that article sounds exaggeratingly negative to me, and doesn't do much to try and influence Etsy for the better.
I don't want to have unnecessarily rose-tinted goggles regarding Etsy. There are some things I would prefer were different - but as an online market place to showcase my work, it does seem to work for me.
.....

I'm getting the train this afternoon for the team leaders summit in Bristol.
There's still time for team members to tell me what you would like Etsy to know, change, improve. Please keep your suggestions specific but as wishful-thinking as you like.
I shall be checking this thread from time to time. Plus I can be contacted via facebook https://www.facebook.com/LynnBaileyPrintmaker
Or Twitter https://twitter.com/LynnBaileyPrint

Have a nice weekend all - I think I shall be having an interesting one.....
