Hi Veronica and all,
I have also been seriously considering opening a second shop, but then decided it's too soon for me, and I just wanted to share my research and reasoning:
- I heard from someone who is a former Etsy employee and an experienced Etsy seller that it's better to avoid opening a second Etsy shop because
- it takes time to build a brand, and having two shops is just twice the work
- you can separate items for different target audiences in categories
- as a crafter, there is usually SOME connection between the things you love to make, and I believe the same goes for your ideal audience.
- it's good to have a variety in your shop for customers to browse around. the more variety you have the more traffic you attract.
Just using Veronica's shop as an example, your target audience for scrapbook supplies and premade pages are the same in my opinion. Why not show them all the options available? You can use branding to tie your items together.
I think this applies to most shops just starting out. But I understand when you are established there are people who keep multiple shops and are enjoying success. but don't rush into it :)
Cheers,
Phoenix @designgenes
