Hi Pia,

I've also been looking through all the old posts trying to find what area one goes to open a second shop. Am surprised that your post is 3 days old and no advice yet. Have you found anything out since your original posting?

I'll let you know if I do.

Re: Want to open second store

Yes, I managed to open up my second store . I had to sign out of my current etsy account to find the link that takes you to the right page, also you need a second email address to open a second store you cant use the same email address as with your current store. This took a while to figure out. This was time consuming.Thank you for asking since you where the only person replying honestly I was disappointed not to get any responses.

Re: Want to open second store

I have been wanting to get my second shop open too, but having to have two seperate accounts/ emails has made me reconsider for now. Sign in/ sign out, check one email then the next. Sounds crazy. They should just let people open shops under one account. I know it's not something they encourage, but really, many of us have different things we want to sell. Good Luck

Re: Want to open second store

I agree, its been a hassle having to sign in and out. Having a second e-mail account that I really don't need. Unless there is a way of doing this that I don't know of. One can only hope that at some point etsy will make this a more easy process, since they constantly improving this side and a lot of people have 2 or more stores.

Re: Want to open second store

I have a second shop, and the logging in and out thing kind of has made me give less attention to the second shop. Recently I decided that maybe I could function better by staying logged in the each of the shops on a different web browser. As far as I know, this should cause any problems.

Re: Want to open second store

I'd like to open another Etsy shop because of the vast differences in the products I sell. What one customer would be looking for is not necessarily what they may see if they went to my store page after clicking a link. They might have to look to find similar items instead of another, possibly more adorable, similar piece popping up automatically.

As I have evolved over the past year, I have at least three different target customers. I believe this is not a good business practice. How can I sell pet portraits, hand-painted housewares and miniatures in the same shop? Have any ideas or advice? I'd prefer to have one shop but cannot figure out a way for my homepage to appear attractive to all target customers. I don't want my customers who are looking for miniatures to get frustrated thinking some of the regular sized items are minis.

A second Etsy shop is not an easy decision for me. Perhaps I am overlooking an attribute in listing my items on Etsy which will enable me to keep one store; some way that the miniature customers would see miniatures whereas someone purchasing a hand-painted bottle would see other hand-painted glassware and goods. I'd sure appreciate any tips anyone has for me.
Thanks!
This is a great theme for a team!! :D

Re: Want to open second store

I have 2 shops that sell totally different items. I don't see where it is a problem or annoying to sign in to one or the other. I like having seperate email and PayPal accounts. It keeps everything seperate and it is easier to reconcile my books at year end.

I would use your sections to direct customers to whatever items you sell. It is not a big deal...

I sew and I sell Vintage. I thought it was a better business decision, for me to open another shop.

Re: Want to open second store

I am opening another shop becauses I don't think I can market to the same people for two different shops. One is anime hats and the other is scrub hats. I guess I will get two paypal accounts eventually.
One the positive side it is nice to have multiple email accounts if your email accounts ever get hacked. It has happened to me and is definitely messy.

Re: Want to open second store

If you use Gmail, it's easy to keep track of two shops. Gmail allows you to insert periods within your email account. For instance, if I'm janedoe@gmail.com, I can use janedoe, jane.doe, j.anedoe, etc. All the emails still go to janedoe@gmail.com, so you can check them in the same account.

Also, I keep track of one account on my laptop and the other on my phone so I don't have the issue of repeatedly logging in and out.

My shops are relatively new and don't have much volume at the time, so these solutions work for me.

Re: Want to open second store

Great tips! I sell needle felted animals and such in my ship, but am opening up a new shop for design work and invitations. I'm going to think that it will be easier to manage emails with two different accounts when the design shop will mostly be ran through emails (printables and downloads). Thank you!!!!

Re: Want to open second store

Hi, I'm quite new on here. I have a jewellery shop on here (no items as yet, all being currently being made ready to sell). But I also want to open a second shop for supplies. Can anyone tell me, I understand you have to have a different email address to sign up for the second shop, but can I still use my same username as I have now? Because I've heard a lot of people say you can have two shops under one account, but then I also hear you have to sign up again from scratch but you can use the same PayPal, so I'm quite confused now!!
I'd be grateful for any advice, thanks

Re: Want to open second store

Hello, I also want to open a second Etsy shop, because like most of the other posts, I have different products. From what I can tell, two separate accounts are needed. People have said it is a hassle logging in and out to check accounts.

Try using two different browsers. Use Foxfire for one account, and Chrome for the other. ((Hoping you don't use IE at all. LOL [sorry, I've been a Web Architect for 19 years, and well... IE has been the root cause of many headaches])). I digress. Since two separate browsers hold separate sessions, and identities, you can be logged into one account without conflicts with the other using two different browsers.

The question is, in regards to PayPal... would two separate accounts/identities be needed there? I have a tax ID, and both shops will do business/operate under this one ID.

Thoughts? Nancy

Re: Want to open second store

I use the same PayPal account for my different shops, so that works. Opening multiple shops for different products works wonderfully. After I separated my vintage bed sheets from my handmade shop I noticed a huge difference.

Re: Want to open second store

I'd like to share a tip that might help with the 2 separate e-mail accounts.

You can have your e-mail forwarded to another e-mail address. This will put your e-mail from all shops into one convenient place. I don't miss e-mails and can respond much faster. Much of my e-mail does not require a reply. However, if it does I can log into the other account and respond.

I hope this helps.

Re: Want to open second store

I have opened two shops. the first for scrapbook supplies the second for premade albums, pages etc.

Don't know yet if there is a benefit to having two shops. Those that have two shops do you find any benefits?

Re: Want to open second store

Hi Veronica and all,

I have also been seriously considering opening a second shop, but then decided it's too soon for me, and I just wanted to share my research and reasoning:

- I heard from someone who is a former Etsy employee and an experienced Etsy seller that it's better to avoid opening a second Etsy shop because

- it takes time to build a brand, and having two shops is just twice the work
- you can separate items for different target audiences in categories
- as a crafter, there is usually SOME connection between the things you love to make, and I believe the same goes for your ideal audience.
- it's good to have a variety in your shop for customers to browse around. the more variety you have the more traffic you attract.

Just using Veronica's shop as an example, your target audience for scrapbook supplies and premade pages are the same in my opinion. Why not show them all the options available? You can use branding to tie your items together.

I think this applies to most shops just starting out. But I understand when you are established there are people who keep multiple shops and are enjoying success. but don't rush into it :)

Cheers,
