How many shops do you have?

Okay, I see alot of threads about second shops.. I have four. Am I insane or something?

For me, I have SUCH different items - crochet patterns and crocheted items, printable planner forms, calligraphy greeting cards, and vintage china, so one shop for each. I like seeing each item showcased individually, plus, not every local business is interested in all products I sell, so I can direct them to the site for just the product they might be interested in.

How many shops do others have? What's the record out of curiosity?

I have two shops. The big thing for me is that they're so different. One is wedding invitations and one is beaded jewelry. I think that makes potential customers feel like you're more professional and not "dabbling".

One for all things destash and on sale and clearance HalfToHaveIt.etsy.com where most items are 50-75% off original price. Much of my destash supplies and kits are here... I did not want to clutter my other shops. So, everything in this shop is Ready to Ship... makes it easier to handle the third shop.

I understand your need to have the different shops. I have two browsers to open two shops at once. I am considering a third browser so I don't have to sign in and out every day from two of the shops. Having three shops is a bit more of a juggle for me.

I've just started this shop for burlap stockings. It's a spin off of my shop that focuses on custom wedding hangers. I offered these stockings up in my shop last Christmas and it was successful enough for me to consider focusing a shop on it separately.

I think the real question I have is, what are the behind-the-scenes advantages?

From the buyer's perspective, I think it's obvious: shops that are focused on specific subsections of items warrant more credibility. In my case it may be a little different, as the wedding hangers are apart of the wedding industry and that is a monster unto itself. The stockings are a holiday item.

The argument against is, they have a burlap as a common theme.

I've seen enough sellers in my wedding hanger section open up NUMEROUS shops, that I figured there must be an algorithmic/search advantage to having separate/additional shops.

If anyone has any stories, proof, anecdotes, or thoughts on branding within the Etsy marketplace, I would love to hear them :)

I have 3 shops and lately it has been a real hassle with etsy - orders, favorities, and activity coming up under the wrong shop the last 2 weeks ~ I sign on to 1 shop and another comes up. Well, I was thinking in opening another one, because I do graphic design and I have this one called lauraazevedo.com, which is my professional website link and I've always worked with this "image" (the website is actually down these days, so please don't go there!!). And I wanted to open another shop JUST for clipart. I actually opened it and designed the banner, added some products there... but at the end of one of these days I was just thinking that, even knowing the buyers of clipart are not the same buyers of graphic design services or artistic prints, I think its better to keep just one shop. For many reasons. Even knowing it would be more "branding" to open a new one with a funny name just for Clip art, and that's branding, in fact my main priority is to promote my name as a freelance designer. So I choose to keep the same shop I had. And if we see... it's all about digital illustration and graphic design.

So now I have just ONE shop. I had TWO just for a few days. :D
