Do I need 2 shops?

Hello all! :) I currently have a shop that specialized in wedding, engagement party, and baby shower invitations. I sell digital files but also provide printing services to those interested in that. I have some thank you cards as well.

Here's the million dollar question! I have a few greeting cards up for sale in the shop, and I'm considering branching out into single art prints. Does it make sense to open a different shop for those items, since they are not really in line with invitation-type items? The greeting cards could make sense with everything else, but not the art prints.

At the same time, I like the reputation I've built in my current shop and starting at 0 sales scares me. Anyhoo, any advice or input would be greatly appreciated! :)

Thanks!
Leslie

Re: Do I need 2 shops?

I have the same question! I have two shops now: one for jewelry and one for pet I.D. tags. One of the items in my jewelry shop has over 300 versions (not all are current listed. Working on that!) So the custom, made-to-order items get lost in the list, as does the rest of my ones of a kind items. I think I need to put those items in a shop of their own. The way it looks, I'm going to end up with FOUR shops!

1 - Items I make production style in bulk
2 - Pet I.D. tags
3 - Unique One-of-a-Kind items
4 - Custom Made-to-Order items

Is that too many shops? I can handle it, I'm just curious.

Re: Do I need 2 shops?

Leslie, I think your art prints fall under the "designs" umbrella in your shop name very nicely. You could simply revise your shop description to include this additional element. I don't think your changes are enough of a stretch to put yourself through the extra effort of maintaining two shops.

Lisa, I would agree, you have things that need their own shops! You could probably get away with three shops, the third devoted to the Unique and Custom.

Happy sales and creative moments to both of you. Caroline
