Hi, I'm Larisa, owner of larassewshop.etsy.com!
I would love any advice and input on how to shop internationally. Based in the USA and I'd like to buy labels through etsy. How do I shop internationally, what packages are the best (I have about 2 ounce pieces of doll clothing). I really am looking for helpful advice, a little clueless on that subject matter.
Thank you!
I need to do that also but from videos that I watched it seems that using Etsy’s calculated pricing and the post office for light items is the best way to go and of course you don’t want free shipping internationally only in the US if you’re going to offer free shipping.
Kara Buntin has some really good YouTube videos on shipping. She ships a lot of packages internationally As she has over 20,000 sales.
If you are based in the United States then If I were you I would wait until you had sales here in the US before you shipped internationally. This will give you more experience dealing with customers if you haven’t had a store before and then after that you could go international.
Also, this is off topic but if you use a tool like Marmalead to find out what tags and titles to use I think you would get found faster. I noticed you have about 37,000 competitors for 18 inch doll clothes and your first sentence in your title ( handmade 18 inch doll navy pants romper) is not searched for very often, only about 20 times per month. Just a suggestion, as I think your store looks really cute.
Oh and I also forgot to say this very important thing about international shipping. You will need to have a privacy policy in your shop policies to protect yourself from the new EU laws they have overseas now
Thank you so much for such great information! I appreciate it a lot and will implement :)
I am very new to Etsy (started selling at the end of December 2018) and after I got my feet wet I started shipping internationally. Long ago I was an ebay seller and it was a pain to ship out of this country. But to my pleasant surprise, Etsy makes it really easy.
Put in the accurate weight of your item in the listings including packaging material and Etsy does all the work for you. I took my first international shipment to the post office to see if there was something else required, but the way the labels are printed on Etsy, there was nothing else I needed to do. It calculates and fills out all the customs information and electronically signs and dates on your behalf. The calculations were automatic, the buyer paid the exact amount, I printed the label and shipped. Now my mailman picks international packages up from my box which long ago was unheard of. No more standing in lines at the post office!
(Sad, but today I shipped a $16 item and the buyer in Canada paid $26 shipping because it was 3 pounds - but he paid, so I shipped.)
Good luck, I hope selling here goes well for you!
Alice
I know it's crazy right, how bad the shipping cost has gotten. I just sold a bead roller for $15.00 and they paid almost $14 in shipping.
One more thing, off topic. I like your doll clothes quite a lot. My granddaughter has an American Girl doll and loves her. I had a great deal of difficulty finding cute outfits that matched for both her and the doll. For Christmas I was stuck with matching outfits that I did not really like but had so few choices, I bought them anyway. Just food for thought. Might be a strong market for that. Have a great night!
Thanks a bunch! Good thought!
