Naming Listings

Hey there! Sorry if this has already been talked about, but I'm really struggling with how to title my listings. I know a lot of people have ways of naming their listings to maximize their views. Are there any tips you guys have?

I got a recommendation to use https://etsyrank.com/.  It is free.  I went in and it "graded" every item I had listed.  It gave advice on how to list it, what kind of title to use, tags to use, and much more.  

I spent hours going every item I had listed.  I don't know that it really helped yet, but I spent more time posting my items and giving descriptions.  It was helpful for me.

I use Etsy Rank also and I also use Marmalead.  These two tools are mainly to show you what buyers are typing in the search bar on Etsy so that if buyers aren't searching the way you are using your titles or tags then you don't want to use those terms because you won't get found on Etsy. Now many sellers think that if they go into Etsy and type a keyword into the Etsy seach bar that the number of items that come up are how many times buyers are searching for this item.  This is not true, when you type into Etsy's search bar, the number that comes up is the amount of listings that sellers have on Etsy.  This is helpful for know how much competition you have but not for what buyers are searching for.

That's why you need a tool like Etsy Rank or Marmalead to tell you what is specifically being searched for by buyers on Etsy.  These tools are Etsy specific, they do not apply to google. They do grade your listings but the grades are just to tell you what the best practices or habits are to get into regard SEO.  Some of my listings that have bad grades are best sellers so I don't mess with them.

After you find out what keywords buyers are searching for than that's what should be in your listing title and tags.  For example, I make iron on transfers.  Since "iron on transfers" have a high search volume by customers on Etsy, each one of my listing has this term in the title.  So for example, I have a princess birthday iron on transfer that is personalized so my listing starts out, Personalized princess mermaid iron on transfer. Then I put a comma and do another high search term such as, Custom iron on decal.  Then another comma and another high volume search term.  You don't have to repeat the same words in your title because Etsy does not like keyword stuffing.  You want to use high search terms that decribe your item.  Don't name your item something cute or something you think sounds exciting or you won't get found in search.

For example, I wouldn't want to name my princess mermaid iron on something like, "whimsical water golden princess mermaid", because buyers don't search for mermaid iron on transfers using those kinds of terms.

Also, the reason I put iron on transfer in each listing is because I want to send Etsy's algorithm a signal that my store has a lot of iron on transfers, so that over time I will be found for that term everytime someone types it in the search bar.  Here is a video on this topic from a coach I use on Youtube.  Her name is Kara Buntin and she is considered an seo expert and has over 25,000 sales on her Etsy store.  I only use coaches with proven sales that can teach me.  That's why it's important not to ever use someone to do you seo or you won't be able to make it on Etsy.  This is something you absolutely have to learn for yourself to sustain and Etsy store.

I also have used eRank and find it useful.  I have had decent sales but something has happened in the last two weeks and it's been crickets, as they say.  I guess I need to post a sale or something different.

You might try being more descriptive with your titles.  For example, let's take your 'Cat Girl Art Print.'  You might title it: 'Hand Drawn Coloured Pencil Cat Girl Art Print', if that was the method used to create it.  If not, incorporate whatever method you used into the title.  Also, you descriptions could / should be more informative /  descriptive.

Your title should contain keywords that pertain to your product that people would use to search like: Art Prints, Cat Prints, Commissioned Prints, Decorative Art, Graphic Art Prints, Handrawn Art Prints.  Something like this should be part of your title. It directs people that are typing in these keywords to come across your shop. There are programs out there to help you pinpoint specific keywords and make each title specific to the piece.
