Help me determine my style!

Hi artists! In quest of getting sales, keywords are a big deal and today it hit me that what if I'm optimizing on the wrong ones? Then it may not matter much if I succeed to be listed on the first pages, because the clients will be looking for something else.

I sell printable files of my artwork and have always thought of them as "abstract" but maybe I'm mistaken...

I would be tremendously greatful if you could have a look at the six pictures (those are all my listings right now) and see what you think, are these abstract, for example the two paintings with flower-like design (items 2 & 3)? If not, what would you say they are? I guess the one with the man walking in the stairs is not an abstract one, more like surreal or something.

I will definitely go and favorite your shop as a "thank you" for your help, and in case I have already done that, I'll <3 some of your items instead :).

Thanks in advance!

/Lina

Re: Help me determine my style!

Hi Lina, your artwork is abstract, but you could also add words (if you haven’t already) like “stylized” “non-objective” “modern” maybe even in the case of the flower one “pop art” since it has such a graphic-arts quality to it, in my opinion. And “printable” of course, that’s really cool. I signed up for Erank, Etsy’s ranking system (it’s free), and that has some great insights.  There is a section for tag words.  I also read an interesting review by an Etsy seller (about Erank)- he said once he got 40 items listed and adjusted his shop to Erank’s suggestions, his sales suddenly went up.  I’m hoping that’s true because that’s what i’m aiming for!! Best of luck to you!

Re: Help me determine my style!

Thank you for the suggestions @BurninLoveArtStudio ! I really need that since I find it so hard to know which popular words would actually describe what I do. Maybe those flowers are a bit pop-artsy :D.

I will check that tag words section on Erank!

Hi there!! I would definitely say "modern abstract"! Your pieces are so pretty.

We have also been using Erank for better tag words; not 100% sure if it's working yet as we are a new shop but aiming for the same thing as @BurninLoveArtStudio ! Worth looking into, there are quite a few awesome features that might help!

Good luck!

Re: Help me determine my style!

Abstract seems fitting. maybe try adding keywords that words that are more descriptive of the individual pieces like colors and what it may look like to an outside observer. Like the last one makes me think of a city map and happy circles makes me think of machinery I don't know if that would help, but it's just a thought. Also, you repeat yourself a lot in your titles, keywords only need to appear once in fact it makes it look like a generated title. Try to make it like you're telling someone about your art rather than trying to trick a search engine (i used to do the same thing in my listings and got similar advice)

Re: Help me determine my style!

Good point, thanks @ApiseraCraftworks :). I don't want my titles to look generated so I will rethink on that one!

It's really interesting to hear what you associate to when seeing my pieces in any case :).

Re: Help me determine my style!

Hi Lina,

I definitely think your work is abstract and has a wonderful flair for color.  The purpose of tags is to help your customers find you, of course.  So I am wondering, for example, the flower print, you mention Living Room a lot, but your customers may think it is more suited to a bedroom or bathroom, so I am not sure you should be emphazing Living Room in your searches as it might be limiting you.  I would mention your colors too and maybe you can do variations of a print so someone can choose their colors.  Also mention who this would be a good gift for.  Like Gift for Mom is a big search item.

Good luck.

I would appreciate a visit to www.cleverclayshop.etsy.com.

Re: Help me determine my style!

Hi CleverClay :). Thanks a lot for you feedback! You are probably right about the living room thing. This was actually just something I decided to try and don't really plan to keep. I guess there will be a lot of testing from my side in order to find something that works well SEO-wise.

I will definitely keep in mind the gift idea, and maybe I should mention my colors a bit more as well. I have in fact also been thinking about making color-variation to give customers more to choose between!
