Hello from Texas

I just want to introduce myself. I'm fairly new to Etsy, about 6 months and very little sales. Maybe some ideas for my shop?

Give it a peek!

Thanks! Tenaya

Hi.  I like your shop.  It has a nice vibe.  I also bought some Queens soap.  Good luck with the shop.

Re: Hello from Texas

I think your shop looks great, I favorited it. Maybe try the free SEO program that's linked to etsy to start out, it gives all kinds of recommendations, finds spelling errors, etc. Can't remember the name at the moment....

Right now goats milk soaps are popular, and I buy those because my toddler has eczema and I think it helps calm it. Maybe consider adding more of those types because I did a search on your shop and only found one option. It was "plain" compared to your other items with lots of colors and shapes, so honestly my 5 year old probably wouldn't want me to get that option. That's just my personal story LOL, but I'm a real consumer of your type of product. Maybe try more mold styles too, the dragon idea is cool. More silicone mould shapes are out there!

Best of luck!

Re: Hello from Texas

Good day! You have a good shop. But the range is very small. If I would buy a gift for someone in your shop, i likely to be looking for soap tag #soapset or #bodycareset. Perhaps it makes sense to add to the soap interesting washcloths, bath bombs, salt.. Either add more keywords to each item's card, or add promotions (free shipping when buying for a certain amount) buyers love bonuses. Just include it in the price and often add a new product or product to order.

Many buyers make the parameters in the search for Etsy , and just do not see your product. The reasons may be different, for someone your delivery is expensive, for someone just does not fit the range (or it is not very diverse) . That is, if you pay the expensive shipping, then the buyer wants to order more products and make it would be a shame to pay a high price. But a lot of different products he can not order, because the range is very narrow. 5 pounds of the same soap is no longer necessary, and to pay for 2 bars of soap shipping is$ 15 no one wants.

Best Regards to you, and good luck :-)

Re: Hello from Texas

I agree, I adjusted the shipping, Im not sure how that happened. Salts and washcloths are "on the list".  Look again and see? Im not sure how to do shipping if the total is like $50 for example. I'd love all the help i can Get  :)

Lovely shop! Sent some hearts your way.

Adding scents to you SEO like "lavender soap" or shape like "heart shaped soap" etc. may help in search.

Wish you all the best!

Re: Hello from Texas

Beautiful shop!  I love handmade soaps and spent a lot of time looking! My advice would be to add the scent in the titles. You have some that have awesome scents and It would be more tempting to just “add to cart” instead of having to go click in and read each description to try to figure out the scent.  It will also help with SEO.

Just one more thing, I think the shipping is a bit high.  I had to remove the items I was going to purchase because of the shipping costs. Lowering your handeling fee or having shipping deals would make a big difference. 😀

Best of luck!

Re: Hello from Texas

Love your store!  Pics are great.  Since it seems to have a soap theme, I would like to see a more spa like banner and logo, but that's just me.  Here are the most common mistakes I find:

This is Linda from Sparkling Vinyl.  I have noticed a common thread of reasons why some stores have low sales so I thought I would just write about mostly what I see based on all the mistakes I made when I was new to Etsy, and believe me, I made them all!

#1. Not knowing your audience.  In other words, not knowing who it is you are selling to and why they would purchase your product over another store.  Also, not researching if buyers are even searching for your item.  I see many stores put up a combination of items that have no common theme or relevance to each other.  Which brings me to ……

#2. Buyers land on your page and they don’t know what your store is about.  For example, you love to make stuff, so you post a baby product, and then a fancy bracelet, a painting of some sort, you get what I mean.  All these customers are looking for different things and the person typing in the search bar looking for a baby product is expecting to find lots of baby items to choose from and instead sees an array of items that don’t relate to each other.  Sometimes the banner is also confusing.  If you are selling baby products, then your banner shouldn’t have a scary dragon on it.  Well I’m just using examples, but you get what I’m saying.

#3. Bad SEO!!!!  This is the worst one of all.  I see sellers naming their bracelets in the description area something like “purple twilight heavenly dream”.  Well people don’t search for bracelets that way.  If they want a purple bracelet they will type in “purple bracelet”.  Save the cute names for your description area or your shop updates.  Also, bad tags, I see one-word tags with broad highly competitive terms that a new store cannot rank for.  Such as gift, bracelet, t shirt, soap – these types of words are too broad, and you need to narrow your terms down to your niche.  You need to use a keyword tool that shows what Etsy buyers are looking for and what best describes your item.  You should be using an “anchor keyword” on your items that are similar. And you need to be using all 13 tags!

The first part of your description should match the first part of your tags.  I use Youtube coaches to learn Etsy SEO.  I use the keyword tools Marmalead and Erank.  There are lots of Youtube videos to learn how to use these tools.  If you look at Etsy’s handbook for SEO, they tell you there what their best practices are.

#4. Bad pictures – Dark backgrounds, dark pictures, blurry pictures!  Pictures are everything on Etsy.  The buyers can’t touch your product and a bad picture will cause no one to click on it which in turn will drop it in the rankings.  Etsy likes light backgrounds because they have done the research and those pictures have a better click through rate which means better sales.

#5. Not enough items.  Yes there are stores that don’t have a lot of items that have a lot of sales but if your competitors that have tons of sales have 200 items on their store and you have 15, who do you think is coming up in search, just based on math alone?

Okay, there are more things, but these are the most common ones I see that can take down your shop before you even start.  I hope this was helpful.

Re: Hello from Texas

I like it, but I would still like to see your banner have more of a spa like feeling to it. A clean look and maybe showing your soaps. Overall, love your store.

Re: Hello from Texas

I'm trying to think of ideas on the banner. So I should put some of my soaps on it you think? I'm just lost when it comes to the banner.

Re: Hello from Texas

Oh sorry, didn’t mean for you to stress. It’s not as important as your product and getting people to your store.

Just keep it simple. Maybe just a clean background with some of your pretty soaps on display. Check out some competitors that sell bath bombs and soap for ideas.
