What kind of paper do you used?

Hello everyone, I would like to know what kind of paper do you all use for lino printing? I am currently using a thicker stock of paper ranging around 275 to 330gsm. May I know if lighter paper is better or heavier is better? Besides, what kind of paint do you all used?

First time on this discussion post! Look forward to your replies!

Re: What kind of paper do you used?

Hi, I just joined this team today. I currently use speedball water based inks but I think I'm going to try out some caligo inks when I've got some spare cash.
As for paper, I have some lovely handmade stuff in different weights whcih I bought and i generally like to experiment with whatever is on hand. Let me know if you find a good paper either in weight of texture/ smoothness.

Re: What kind of paper do you used?

I have been using Caligo and like it a lot. It is a water based ink that is a bit pricy but as far as water based inks go it prints like a dream and cleans up easy. I usually like to print on Rives BFK heavy weight when I have a press, but I don't have one at the moment and that heavy paper is hard to hand burnish. Mulberry is great for hand burnishing but wrinkles so easy and is a pain to tear with the tear bar. I am going to try some sommerset lighter weight paper next and see how that goes.

Re: What kind of paper do you used?

For light weight paper, for printing woodblock and linoleum, I prefer Simili Japon. And for the ink oil based Van Son, they keep colour really well and also have panton colors which makes them nice to make new colors with.

For etching I prefer Hahnemuller etching paper of 300 gr and oil based inks.

Sommerset seems to be OK as well, though the heavier ones a a bot expensive. We do use them for Lithography.

I also think papers and ink are a bit dependable on where you live.

Before I graduated from college, I used oil ink off of graphic chemical. i tried some Akua ink and didn't have the best results. Just ordered Speedball oil ink online, so going to see how that works. Lately my paper has been cardstock or 110# uncoated paper. When I stumble upon some spare cash, I plan on trying out Rives and other brands of paper.

Re: What kind of paper do you used?

Hello Everyone,
I print with lino on all kinds of paper I have around to see the different outcome. I use water based Schmicke and Ferrario ink.
Papers that I specially liked are:
- tracing paper was a great surprise how it handled the ink
- medium weight card stock 150 - 200 g/m2
- Rosaspina block printing paper (it has a velvety surface, very soft paper so definitely wait between colors if you print over another layer)

Since I have to hand burnish, I use Masa paper, which has a coated back and a heavy texture front. I like it because it is thin enough for me to see through to check if I am registered correctly for multiple colors. Even though it is thin, this paper does not absorb ink, so there is no bleeding. It has a beautiful deckled edge when torn and the paper is very white. I use mostly Speedball water based ink.
