Paper Preferences

We're looking into changing our paper for linocuts, any and all input would be helpful. What are your paper preferences and why?

Thank you,

Rosemary+Robin

Re: Paper Preferences

Using a hot press fergamo at the moment but its a little too cream. Do you use water or oil based inks? I'm looking into finding something that allows for super crisp printing with water based inks. All ideas also welcome.
Great question.

Re: Paper Preferences

Hello everyone,

I like to always print on something handmade and preferably something sustainable, and acid free of course. Right now I use Lokta Paper from Nepal.

Btw, Rosemary and Robin, your photo makes me smile everytime I see it :)

Re: Paper Preferences

@sam we're using water-based inks right now, we've been using rives bfk since we had a lot of it, but it's not the easiest to work with when hand printing. Let us know what you come up with, we're looking for the same. Something we can use until we get a new press.

@Tisha glad you like it :) we were horsing around at the dinner table around the holidays, we took a bunch of them, it was really fun!!!

Re: Paper Preferences

So far I've used Rives lightweight, smooth bristol board, and Masa paper, all of which are readily available and quite inexpensive (but all are acid-free). I don't have a press and hand burnish with a wooden spoon so I can reccomend all of these papers if you're hand burnishing (not that I wouldn't love to have a press, mind you!)

Re: Paper Preferences

I read an interesting article last night written by a chap that soaked his paper over night, let it dry out a little the next day, he then printed on it whilst it was damp and found that it worked really well. I've never heard of anyone doing this before, is this a common practice amongst other artists? I shall be trying this later, fingers crossed!
