Acrylic paints

Question to the group,

I have been experimenting with different type/brands of acrylic paints on veg tan carving leather and find that I get different results or coverage. has anyone found a brand that works best for them?

Thanks
Tom

Re: Acrylic paints

Hi there
I paint on veg tan leather with eco Flo Paint. Sometimes I even paint with leather dye.
My experience with acrylic paint is that the paint is not flexible and it does not got into the leather. After wearing a belt, it splits and breaks.

I rather stay with painting acrylics on canvas.
The coveridge of acrylics is mostly marked on the bottle. there are super cover acrylics as some fade and look like watercolor.

hope I could help you.
Vreny

What I now do is paint with laquers (sheens).

Re: Acrylic paints

Greetings,

I agree about acrylics with leather usually only when they are on molded or points where the leather bends (belts, pouches, etc). I have done portraits and the acrylics do seem to stand the test. I have just tested the eco flow paints.

To date my best results remain with spirit dyes and oil dyes, as they penetrate the leather..

Also wanted to add you may experience better lasting qualities with acrylics if you add a top coat, that will "seal the leather".

Cheers
Tom

Re: Acrylic paints

Hey.
I use the paint eco Flo , kenzo (alcohol base), I use Polish acrylic paint Kaps as finishing paint for individual elements - (as far as the quality does not concede, and the price in my region is lower than fibings)

Re: Acrylic paints

I sometimes use Createx an airbrush paint applied with a brush. It has always worked well for me
