Constructive Exercise: What's Your Favorite Item?

The Etsy Forums used to have a "critique" thread where random Etsy sellers could offer critiques/suggestions to other sellers. I got some good (though harsh! haha) advice on how to improve my banner. Why don't we start with a fun/low-pressure exercise?....

"Go to the shop of the seller who has posted/replied above you in this thread. Pick out your favorite item, then post why you like that particular item."

For example, do you like the item because it fits with your taste, the colors, photos, description, or it reminds you of something, etc...? Aside from the number of hearts/views, this exercise may help us identify items with the most potential to sell!

I have also participated in ETSY critiques and I think they can be helpful. First, I think you have a great avatar. I’m not sure if that is you, but that smile could sell anything! best foto: Listing # 68875071 because you see the earrings on a person (not just the ear). I think you should add a “person smiling w/ the earrings on” shot to each listing!

Re: Constructive Exercise: What's Your Favorite Item?

I have yet to participate in critiques. Its a bit intimdating especially since i'm such a newbie to etsy!! But to say what my favorite thing is from Walls2Canvas shop, its his La Loca Mexican Art Coffee Cup. The colors are so vibrant and even the photograph is themed out with great colors. My only suggestion (which is more of a personal preference) Is to get some pan dulce in the pics ;) lol

Thanks for the feedback Ilmostro! Actually I agree w/ you, I had this idea of having my favorite treats next to each cup, the only problem is that I EAT THEM before I get home!
I was talking about this w/ MexiFolk before, and she suggested I do a "cafe foto", where a chica is holding my cup at a cafe and pretending to drink coffee, lol, what do you think!? I kinda want to do it, but them I feel silly asking someone to do that!

I think its a great idea! I dont think you should feel silly about it but if you cant bring yourself to do so... is there maybe a nook somewhere around your place where you can fake a cafe vibe?

I think it is all in how you ask them. I would go to a locally run coffee shop and tell them its for your etsy. Give them the link if they seem weirded out. I bet they would do it. Or... take your favorite chica with you!!

Re: Constructive Exercise: What's Your Favorite Item?

to continue this exercise... in burningcorazon's shop, i like the Rosa calavera hair fascinator because of the color scheme & bountiful use of feathers! but what i really like are her product descriptions. it's sweet that these are a co-production of her and her husband's talents! we have an annual, highly-attended Dia de los Muertos procession in Tucson, and I could definitely see these hair fascinators being a crowd-pleaser. (To continue this thread, please critique the shop before burningcorazon's since mine was already critiqued. Thanks!!)

I like the azul one...I love those glowing blue eyes! Here in LA we have a ton of Dia de los Muertos events and they are fantastic...I always build an altar too. At one time I believe you had a pic of 3 people wearing 3 of them and they were all glowing...that was a great pic. I would put up some more pics up like that, where you can see the people in full dia de los muertos regalia (like your avatar)!

ilmostro, i love your robot banks! Why? Because they take me back to when i was young. But, especially, i love the Mime Robot bank. The picture is great, being simple and direct. The minimalist approach is great because I can see what you're advertising..and having the black board behind the Mime...Excellent idea!

StinkyMonkey4Eva, I love your Señorita doll http://www.etsy.com/listing/66531990/la-senorita-muerta-doll. It is too cute. The photos are great and the price alone seals the deal.

Re: Constructive Exercise: What's Your Favorite Item?

Thanks guys!! I have been working on a big order for a boutique in New Orleans. I am grateful for your opinions. The ones I am making I am going to do like a group photo with them all lit and glowing. By the way, I love the group and all the talent I see in it!
