Cutting Leather

I cut leather for the first time recently, and found that the cuts had a layer of ash that spread really easily, making the pieces dirty with it. Can anyone offer any advice?
Is this common or avoidable with different settings or material?
The leather was about 2mm thick, and with a suede texture on both sides.

Re: Cutting Leather

Try spraying your piece with water. Or soaking it just enough where the piece is moist but isn't dripping wet. That works for many of our members who work with leather.

Hopefully that helps!

Re: Cutting Leather

Usually, we can get it off simply with a little water on a piece of cloth. But yes, it is an issue.
